Yet another month has come

and gone. April is upon us

and the weather is changing.

With that change though

comes one month closer to

home. The Soldiers of the

2175th are performing their

missions at a high level. The

opportunity for military

schools has presented itself

and we have had numerous

Soldiers graduate from WLC

recently. The educational

opportunities are exceptional

here as well and countless

Soldiers have used the educa-

tion assets to their benefit.

We strive to keep families

updated through numerous

forms of media. From the

newsletter to the

ARMYFRG.ORG website to

the FACE-BOOK page.

Please check out all of those

forms of media.

God Bless, As time were

speed we know it won’t be

long until we are home with

our loved ones again.

COMMANDER’S CORNER

As I write this month, I want to wish you

all a Happy Easter and great month of

April. Over the last month we have en-

joyed a mild trend in the weather seeing

temperatures of only around 80-90 de-

grees. As we move into the month of

April we are all going to miss this so

called cool spell. During March we saw

the re enlistment ceremonies for some of

our Soldiers that took place under the base

flagpole here on CAS. I want to con-

gratulate all those that were a part of this

ceremony and have decided to extend

their career with the Missouri Army Na-

tional Guard. As the months move by,

our Soldiers are continuing to set the tone

for the camp with everything that they do. I

am so very proud of the work and dedication

that our Soldiers have shown and continue to

exude as we draw one more month closer to

our return home. Hopefully you have been

able to see more of the pictures of your loved

ones on our FACEBOOK site as well as

through them. If not please let us know on

the site and we will do our best to capture

your Soldier on there as well. Once again I

want to wish you a Happy Easter and upcom-

ing month of April.

1SG PROUDLY PRESENTS

FRG SPOTLIGHT

An early spring, has us getting ready for the

5th annual golf tournament, this has kept the

FRG busy.

Several of the ladies met to box up and mail

packages to the unit, hope you have received

them and enjoying the goodies.

The next event after the golf tournament, will

be the Family Day which will be held in Mo-

berly, in July. Thanks to Dana McCune, who

has been working with the City of Moberly

plus the businesses as it looks like it will be a

great event. The worst part is, not having the

full unit here to enjoy this.

Now, that we are on the down hill side of

this deployment, we all seem to be count-

ing down the months, weeks and days until

everyone is back safe and sound with us.

Our thoughts and prayers are with each and

everyone of the soldiers in the unit.

Keep safe,

Mama Z

Thanks to everyone for the

support and prayers.

As deployed soldiers, there are

times throughout the deploy-

ment when we get down, get

bored, and just want to go

home. Of course that is not

possible, so that is why the

Army Morale Welfare and Rec-

reation (MWR) is here. The

MWR here in theater has it a

little different than the MWR

back home in the States, but

according to Tony Randall,

Director of the MWR at Camp

As Sayliyah Qatar, the MWR

mission doesn't change. “Keep

your Morale up, take care of

your welfare and give you some

kind of recreation to do that.

That’s what MWR does for

every base all over” says Ran-

dall. Camp As Sayliyah (CAS)

is unique and different than

other places in theater. At CAS

the MWR can take trips off

post, whereas other places in

theater, that is not a possibility.

On other posts in theater the

MWR offers gyms, and swim-

ming pools and other opportuni-

ties for physical fitness to help

keep moral and welfare up.

They also organize for the

Armed forces Entertainment to

come through to provide enter-

tainment for the troops. Here at

CAS soldiers are “luckier than

most” according to Randall.

Here soldiers can take trips into

the city of Doha, experience the

culture, see the sights, and just

get away for a little while. Ara-

bian horse races, camel races

and drag racing are some of the

activities offered to soldiers at

CAS. There are also day trips

that can be taken to the beach to

these trips, but it is worth it”

says Nichols.

The MWR is always planning

something or offering some-

thing for the soldiers here to

keep you going. A calendar is

put out every month with sport-

ing events such as flag football,

dart tournaments, or pool tour-

naments, as well as things such

as bingo night or karaoke night.

There's always something hap-

pening on and off post and there

easier to interact with them”

says Nichols. The Malls in

Doha are popular places to visit

on squad trips. Doha has two

malls; The City Center Mall and

The Villagio Mall. Both malls

have ice skating rinks and big

food courts with lots to choose

from; including some American

cuisine like McDonalds, Apple-

bee's, and Subway, and lots of

unique stores to shop. There is

definitely plenty to do here and

for most soldiers it's just finding

the time to do it “I have sacri-

ficed a lot of sleep to go on

is always something different to

do. “The biggest thing is, we

are here to support you, you

guys are the ones that are stand-

ing on the wall protecting us

and allowing us to do the things

that we do every day. And a lot

of us take that for granted” says

Randall.

Morale, Welfare and Recreation for Deployed Soldiers

SPC NICHOLS ON AN INLAND SEA TOUR

experience something new.

Nichols went on the inland sea

picnic trip which included rid-

ing over sand dunes in a 4

wheel vehicle, having a tradi-

tional BBQ at the beach, surfing

the sand dunes on snow boards

and riding camels. She also

went on a city tour which took

them to see all the important

and historic sites around Doha,

including the Pearl monument,

all the government buildings

and even the Amir's own per-

sonal mosque. The MWR per-

sonnel are very knowledgeable

about the history and culture of

Qatar and are always telling you

the background and history of

everything you see.

Soldiers here at CAS also have

the opportunity to go off post in

groups or squads on their own.

“With the squad trip you get a

little more interaction with the

people and after going on MWR

trips and learning about the

people and culture it is a lot

participate in water sports, surf

the sand dunes, or even go on a

deep sea fishing trip.

SPC Jamie Nichols has been on

two MWR trips so far and says

they really do help boost mo-

rale. “We really need this, really

need to get out, need a break to

get out and sit down at a restau-

rant and shop for gifts for loved

ones” said Nichols. Everyone

on the trips agrees it is a chance

to go have some fun and see and
