Show that Benton Matters to YouApril 20 • Clean-up Day
Members and friends of BENTON MATTERS, the recently formed committee that is involved in a campaign to help clean up our city, will see action on Saturday, April 20. At that time, South Street will be the target area. Through coordination between the committee and the South Street property owners, work in that area will take place. This is a good example of our group working in concert with residents to make improvements.
This group needs your help. If your business or any church youth group, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, and civic organizations want to be involved, please contact the Chamber or Edd Spurlock, chairman of the Benton Matters committee.

CHAMBER To MANAgE EVENT CENTER Your Chamber Board of Directors and staff believe in our slogan of “Business Focused. Community Minded.” This has just recently become more evident by our decision to present a proposal to the Benton A & P Commission to oversee the management of the Benton Event Center. On March 7, the Commissioners accepted our proposal.Your Board believes this is a good move for the Chamber and for the citizens of Benton. Already the Chamber serves as a welcome mat for the City; since employees of the Center will be housed in the Chamber building, this will make the rental process and other Event Center management procedures more straightforward. Employees will work directly under the direction of Executive Director Gary James.Efforts are underway on establishing rental fees, booking policies and contracts, standard operating procedures and website development. One item that has been paramount in these efforts is keeping in mind that the citizens of Benton supported the building of the center with a 74% vote and they need to be rewarded for the faith they put forward with their vote. The process of hiring an Event Manager is also taking place at this time. Approximately 180 applications for the position have been received. One round of interviews has already been conducted and another series is scheduled for the first week of April. Conducting the interviews is a committee appointed by the Benton A & P Commission. Serving on the committee are Tom Baxley, Lori Terrell, and Holley Little. The City of Benton will be helping in the Benton Event Center management process. City of Benton Finance Officer Karen Scott will continue to provide all accounting services for the Event Center. She, the Chamber staff, and the Event Center staff will work in partnership to make this new addition to our city a great landmark and a source of
pride for our citizens.

SAVoR THE FLAVoR
Adding Restaurant guideThe Chamber is excited to announce that we will work in conjunction with Red Door Book to present a Savor the Flavor Restaurant Guide of
Saline County! The Guide will first be available at the Chamber’s 2013 Savor the Flavor event to be held in the new Benton Event Center on October 10. In preparation for the printing of the Guide, Phillip Wells of Red Door Book will begin calling on restaurants in the area beginning in April. He will explain the different ads available.Copies of the Restaurant Guide will be available in participating restaurants, area hotels and other businesses. We hope all of our restaurants will want to participate in this project and that the Guide will be a good way to highlight our local restaurants. We also see this as a service to the visitors in Saline County.
