Number 1 in April 2000 was a 4 page mono edition, the first item through our letter box when we moved into Belton in that year. We now have a lovely glossy 24 page edition each month which is due to much hard work that Brian Swan the past editor contributed to the magazine. FROM THE DOG WARDENSPlease be aware there has been an increase in dog fouling around the village lately, it is such a disappointment to see our lovelyvillage being spoilt by a few lazy dog owners. The whole of the borough is covered by the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996,meaning those who fail to clear up after their dogs can incur a fine of up to £1,000 in the courts, or an £80 fixed penalty notice. If you see a dog fouling and you have the chance please get a photo and identity of the dog and owner time and place and getin touch with either me on 07899947981, email [email protected] or Kerry on 01493 846677 email [email protected] have been several people fined in The Borough lately don’t let it be you!Whilst on the subject of our beautiful dogs have you had your dogs micro chipped? From 6 April 2016 all dogs in England,Scotland and Wales will be legally required to be micro-chipped and their details registered on one of the authorised databasessuch as Petlog. Northern Ireland has already introduced this measure. There are many places offering free micro chipping although the cost is relatively small anyway usually under £15, talk to yourlocal RSPCA, Dogs Trust or other animal welfare trust to see if they are offering it free. This will help get your dog back safelyif it is lost or stolen, it will also help get you informed if your dog is involved in an accident. There is also a petition going at themoment to stop micro chipped dogs being destroyed without trying to contact the owners where if your dog gets out and wasnot micro chipped it could be put to sleep after just a few days of not being claimed, so again don’t let this happen to your dogget it chipped! Please also be aware micro chipping does not replace a dog needing an identity tag all the times it is out in apublic place unless it is working (example Gun Dog working on a shoot)I would also like to warn you please don’t leave your dogs tied up outside shops or anywhere else where you cannot see themit only takes a few seconds for someone to steal your dog, often they are stolen as bait dogs which means they will be used bydog fighting rings as practice for fighting dogs, in these cases their teeth are often filed down so they cannot protect themselvesand they are killed by fighting dogs so never leave your dog unattended as any dog can be bait! The people who steal yourfamily pet for this sport if you can call it that are not bothered if your dog is old, young, pedigree or mongrel, they also watch thelocal papers looking for dogs advertised free to a good home so never advertise your dog that way always give it to the breedrescue. These people can turn up looking very smart and tell you your dog will have a great life with a lovely garden etc. nevertrust anybody with your dog they are a love and a treasure to you but to someone else they could be just money. Please alsobe aware that dogs are not allowed in the small children’s area or the fenced hard court area on the Bell Lane playing field. With all that said enjoy your dogs, they are a big part of your family ours will enjoy many camping trips this year, and many lovelywalks. Having three keeps me very busy but never too busy to enjoy meeting your dogs too.

Lesley on behalf of all the village dog wardens and Borough Rangers.

BELTON PARISH PARTNERSHIP SUCCESS

Norfolk County Council and many Parish Councils throughout Norfolk are combiningfor a share of over £750,00 for highways related schemes in their areas.Although there are a total of 122 schemes there are only two in the whole of the GreatYarmouth Borough area and these are both for Belton with Browston Parish CouncilThe cost of £4407 will be equally shared between the County and Belton to constructa “Trod”, a hardcore footpath to fill in one of the last gaps in the parishes network ofpaths, this will run from the Waveney Drive bus shelter along Bracon Road to link withthe existing path near to the Ranworth Close entrance and will also involve cuttingback of some of the brambles in the area,.

The same payment plan will apply to a scheme costing £3548 to install a set of flashing20MPH “Wig Wag” signs on Bracon Road at the junction with Moorland Way, these willonly operate at school arrival and departure times and will assist the control person aswell as making it safer for pupils on their way to and from Moorlands Primary Academy. Both schemes will be completed in the 2016/17 financial year.

FEBRUARY COUNCIL MEETINGTwelve parish councillors, county councillor Colin Aldred, borough councillor Brian Lawn and two members of thepublic attended the February meeting of Belton withBrowston Parish Council, John Rudrum was in the chair. The points raised in the public section were an increasein dog fouling in the village, a request for more litter binsincluding re-siting of one of the two at the entrance to theWild Duck Holiday Park and a request for more lightingon the Bell Lane Playing Field.Councillor Aldred reported that the missing warning signon the A143 at Belton Cross Roads will be replaced, theroad surface there will have on going temporary repairsuntil a full resurfacing planned for September, Regardingthe lack of signs on the A12 indicating the new link roadgoes to Belton/Bradwell temporary additions will now beplaced on existing boards as long term the main A12roundabout at the Links Road junction will be remodelled.Members reported on two meetings with Anglian Waterinvolving Belton, Burgh Castle and Bradwell councilsover sewage capacity concerns, it was stated that an-swers to questions and action is still needed, it wasagreed that further meetings would be needed with thecompany involving all the local parish councillors, thecompany have indicated that the Stepshort pumpingstation is one to be updated this coming winter. The community caretaker has been asked to see whichhedges are causing access problems in the pathway fromHeather Gardens to Station Road North so that actioncan be taken to get them cleared. There were two new planning applications, a slight in-crease in roof levels for the recently approved plans at 35St. James Crescent and change of use of the formerschool caretakers bungalow on Bell lane to a familytherapy support unit for Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Founda-tion Trust, the comment on both of these was no abjec-tions subject to the views of neighbours. It was reportedthat the Borough Council had not implemented the Com-munity Infrastructure Levy as they felt that it would havean adverse effect on new property sales as prices wouldbe increased be developers to pay for it however the clerkwas instructed to find out how much the Section 106 fundmonies were likely to be from the proposed developmentbehind Bland Corner and to make the Borough aware

that the parish would be applying to use these funds in duecourse. There have been two accidents involving vans on the cornerby the shoppers car park recently one certainly causing seriousinjury to a pedestrian and councillors are concerned aboutgeneral safety in that area.

ENTUAENTUA(East Norfolk Transport UsersAssociation) is a voluntary independ-ent body which monitors bus and railprovision in the East Norfolk Area.

Please visit our web site www.entua.org.uk.The traffic chaos in Great Yarmouth due to a burstwater mainfrom Monday 7th – Friday 11th March 2016, illustrates just howinadequate our local road network is. Our local road system isnot able to cope when an incident occurs that reduces capacityon either one of the two bridge crossings. Volumes of trafficincrease year on year without any additional infrastructurebeing put in place and it is the sheer volume of cars which causethe tailbacks. The local bus services get caught up in thesetraffic jams and they are unable to maintain their publishedtimetables. It was reported that at certain times on some of thedays, a bus journey from the James Paget Hospital to MarketGates (which on a normal day) takes 27 minutes, was takinganything up to 2 hours. What a chaotic state of affairs. The busoperators were unable to provide a decent bus service to theircustomers due to the large number of cars which in most roadrelated incidents are the cause of traffic jams. There are just toomany cars for our current road infrastructure! So before the Highways Agency or Norfolk County Council eventhink about dualling the A47 Acle Straight, Great Yarmouth`sroad network system needs sorting out and this must include athird river crossing and a complete restructure of the A12/A47Vauxhall roundabout and the dualling of the A12 BreydonBridge (why it was constructed as a single carriageway in thefirst place is beyond belief). Dualling the A47 Acle Straightcomes at the end of all other upgrades, if it needs doing at all, itis our view that dualling the Acle Straight would only satisfy thelust of the speed and greed motorists and would do nothing toreduce road crashes and would be pointless if remodelling ofthe Vauxhall roundabout was not in place first to remove thebottleneck.Perhaps when we have a third river crossing, Southtown Roadnorthbound can be made buses/taxis only ensuring that buseshave a reasonable chance of adhering to the their publishedtimetable.A reminder that ENTUA`s next Public Forum will be on Tuesday26th April, 2016 at 2.00 pm inCaister Community Centre.A couple of issues ago we invited readers to write in to tell usof any problems you may be having using local bus and trainservices and equally if there were any comments of praise – todate we have received no comments, so we can only concludethat all is working well!Still no news from First about the local bus review so anychanges that may happen will not now occur until September. If you are interested in helping us campaign for improved busand train services why not become a member. All we ask is aminimum donation of £5.00 per annum to coverprinting/postage of our quarterly newsletter. If you are interest-ed please write to ENTUA, 18 Wensum Way, Belton NR319NY.Tony Grice.

BURGH CASTLE FORT:Life outside the walls project – how

you can get involved!

The Norfolk Archaeological Trusthopes to take forward a new project in Burgh Castle to learnmore about the settlement that grew up outside the Romanfort walls, as well as recording more recent village history.Mini Digs As part of the proposal we hope to organise a pro-gramme of archaeological ‘test-pits’ in gardens and fields out-side the scheduled monument area, starting in May. Thesemini archaeological excavations will help us to understandmore about the size and spread of the Roman settlement -and we’re looking for local people who would like to take part.Would you be willing to have a 1m x 1m pit dug in your gar-den? The pits are dug out carefully and all soil and turf putback tidily afterwards! If you live in Burgh Castle and wouldlike to offer your garden for a ‘mini dig’ please get in touch. We would also like to hear from people living in the area whowould be interested in actually digging the test pits - full train-ing will be provided, and we hope to organise the digs fromMay onwards. Let me know if you would like to find out more.Oral history

We hope to carry out an oral history project as well, to cap-ture memories of the village in the 20th Century.Did you grow up in Burgh Castle during the20th. century? Doyou have stories about Burgh Castle that were passed on toyou by your parents or grandparents? If you would like toshare your memories and stories about the village please getin touch!

BURGH CASTLE HOLIDAY PARKS

Village Voice received a letter from Burgh Castle resi-dent Rosemary Hayfield concerned about a proposedlicensing variation requested by Park Resorts Ltd forBure and Yare Holiday Villages which had only cometo light from a notice posted on a nearby telegraphpost. Included was a request for open air cinemas, wrestling and live outdoor music from 10am to 1amthroughout the year.Neighbours objected with a 60 signature petition to theBorough Council. Park resorts eventually withdrew theoutdoor part of the application for Bure Park but not forYare Village prior to the March 8th hearing. (they didreduce the times however so that music would end at7pm, wrestling would be indoors but the outdoorcinema would continue till 11.30pm).The outcome of the hearing was :-- no outdoor actives on the Yare site.- The relaxed alcohol licence applies to indoors andthe shop on Bure and everywhere on Yare.- The overall parks programme continues for theirin-house customer but NOT general public- Boxing is not now included, wrestling remains likelyfor Yare and possibly occasionally indoors on BureOne of the objectors, Barry Symonds said he wasdisappointed at the outcome and lack of support fromthe Parish Council however borough Councillor AdrianMyers was thanked for his assistance as were localresidents for their support.

BRANDON LEWISWe are only a few weeks into theEuropean Referendum campaign, and it seems that much of the nation-al media has been dominated withthe various arguments advocated byeither side in the debate. VillageVoice isn’t the place to set out mydetailed views, but after much care-ful thought I have decided as anindividual I will vote to remain in the

European Union. If you want to understand my reason-ing, then you can take a look at the piece I’ve writtenabout the subject on my website –www.brandonlewis.co.Constituents will have different views, many will agreewith my logic and others disagree vehemently with myopinion. It’s important to remember that my vote is onlyone amongst many millions that will be cast. As aMember of Parliament, I am delighted to be part of aGovernment, which delivered its promise to give theBritish people a say on this vital issue, something noneof the other main political parties were prepared to offer.Over the last two years I have written several times inthis column about my concerns that a bloc ofemboldened Scottish Nationalists, determined to breakup the United Kingdom, would use their numbers tointerfere with decisions that don’t affect Scotland. Wehave now seen that happen, when they hypocriticallyvoted down Government proposals, which would haveallowed local councils to relax the Sunday trading rulesin their area. Of course it’s frustrating as a GovernmentMinister to see changes that you want implemented, defeated in the House of Commons. Even more so,when those changes were supported by the majorityof English & Welsh MP’s. It’s even worse, when thoserules are already in operation north of the border. TheSunday trading laws in Scotland already allow shopsto remain open for longer hours on Sunday, yet theSNP decided to play silly political games to deny thatchoice to my constituents in Great Yarmouth. There’sa technical reason as to why they had that opportunity, but it demonstrates why I was right to warn about therisks of the SNP propping up a Government inWestminster.

BOHEMIANS GALAXYWinners of County FA's inaugural Respect & Fairplay Award-

In line with the FA’s Respect Campaign, Norfolk County FA have announcedthe winners for its Respect and Fair Play Award 2015.The awards allow anybody to nominate a youth team, up to the U18’s agegroup, for displaying a mark of outstanding sporting behaviour and therewere joint winners this year North Walsham Angels u15 and BohemiansGalaxy u12s..Bohemians Galaxy U12’s were nominated after they demonstrated a re-markable gesture of Respect at the culmination of the 2014-15 season. TheNorfolk and Suffolk Youth League side sat second with one game remaining, when they hosted 1st placed Waveney Jaguars. A tense match, the scoreswere locked at 2-2 with around a minute to go, competing for the title.Bohemians striker Kalvin was through on goal, and as the onrushingWaveney goalkeeper closed down, he received a blow to the head as hecollided with Kalvin's knee. Instead of the Bohemians player scoring in anopen goal, to win the game and the league, he kicked the ball out for a goalkick so the goalkeeper could receive treatment.Chairman of Bohemians FC, Adrian Simm, was delighted with Kalvin andthe award: "When Bohemians FC was formed in 2004 the concept was toenable all children to play football in an environment that was fit for purposeand follow the guidance from the FA’s Charter Standard award scheme, encouraging them to continue to play for the club in one of our adult teams,to be nominated for a Norfolk County FA ‘Respect and Fair Play GrantAward’ is tremendous. The Grant Award that we have received will enableus to enhance the coaching qualifications of our volunteers that help run ourteams. We have Kalvin to thank for this award. For a young person to act insuch a way sets an example to us all.” Local MP Brandon Lewis sent the club his best wishes on hearing of theaward, saying "I am delighted that Bohemians are co-winners of the inaugu-ral Norfolk FA's Respect & Fair Play award. It is a testament to the hard workof everyone at Bohemians FC that you have won this award, showing thatthe club is implementing the motto of "respect everyone, fear no-one". It isgreat news that a local club offering players of all abilities the chance toenjoy the beautiful game has been recognised, and I wish you all the bestfor the future." Photograph on left.

DOWN THE GARDEN PATH

There is no doubt that mostmodern day homes have muchsmaller gardens than homes ofeven fifty years ago. I supposeit is inevitable that as the de-mand for even more homes in-creases together with higher

cost of land than gardens will get even smaller. How-ever, even the smallest of gardens designed with theright plants can offer a haven of peace and tranquillityaway from the stress of daily living.

Here are a few ideas without it costing thousands -Firstly, most of us have fences separating our backgardens from those of our neighbours.Look to see which fence first gets the morning sunand the evening sun. Is there an area that gets littleor no sun at all. Make a rough sketch and take it withyou when visiting the plant centre. Get a book: I findthe Dr. D.G. Hessayon books very useful, they areillustrated and give all the basic information that isneeded, such as if the plant is evergreen, where toplant, how big the plant will get and its requirements. For clothing fences the must haves are in my opinion,Clematis, Lonicera (Honeysuckle) Ceanothus andJasmine. If there is room then other climbers can beconsidered. e.g. Virginia Creeper, Solanum (Poison-ous) Passion Flower. The Russian Vine (Mile aMinute Plant) is to be avoided and Wisterias are toobig for most small gardens.

If room allows for a small border, then there are manysmall shrubs, perennials, patio and bedding plantsthat are suitable and it is a matter of personal prefer-ence, colour schemes, scented plants, plants forcutting etc. It is best to visit the Plant Centre and seethe plants. There should be a Bed Label giving all theinformation and don’t be afraid to ask. They will bewilling to help.

Lastly container and patio and basket plants of whichthere are many thousands to choose from. Many ofthese plants will require protection from frost or arebest bought from the middle of May onwards (earlierif you have a conservatory or greenhouse in which tokeep them.) Things to consider are :-a) Is the container/basket to be in sun or shade.b) Do I have time to look after a basket which willneed watering at least once a day.c) Is the container to be large and the focal point ofthe garden in which case I need a centre plant suchas a Cordyline or an upright Fuchsia surrounded byother patio or bedding plants.

Look at the labels and ask especially if you are aninexperienced gardener. Whatever you do all be it ifyou have a ten acre site or a smaller garden Enjoy.

Rev. Rosie Writes....I have been thinking about what it means to live in the light of Easter……..At Eastertime we remember Jesus’s death on the cross and how he overcame death, and we celebrate his rising to life again. We will have eaten numerous hot cross bunsand Easter eggs, created to help us recollect this life-changing event, and will haveenjoyed two bank holidays, originally given for the purpose of holy

reflection and celebration. What an amazing gift of love! In the Bible we read that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life . What happened on that first Good Friday on ahill just outside the city wall of Jerusalem is, in some ways, difficult to grasp. Jesus, God's Son, went willingly to hisdeath on a cross so that humanity may have the opportunity of a restored relationship with God himself. Lookingback to that event we can see its significance. Through the eyes of faith it becomes a staggering, yet marvellouslywonderful act of generous, self-giving love that opens the door to an amazing life journey with Jesus. At the cross, the disciples were devastated; their dreams of Jesus being the Messiah were in tatters; they had notfully understood what Jesus had been teaching them over the previous three years. On Easter Day, at first, theystill struggled in their grief until they met Jesus, the risen Son of God. After that, his presence with them transformedthem totally. They enjoyed a few weeks when Jesus spent time with them - teaching them, eating with them, enjoyingone another's company, before he returned to God, promising to send the Holy Spirit as a helper and comforter, tobe with them (and us) always. From being fearful disciples, hiding away, the men and women who followed Jesus faced life with a new purpose. The Bible records that life was not always easy for any of them, but they had a new hope, and a resolve to live theirlives following the example set by Jesus.I recently had the pleasure of spending time climbing snow covered slopes in the Cairngorms. Some folk wereclimbing up with skis and boards on their shoulders too! I enjoyed watching people skiing and snowboarding withsuch ease, comparing their downhill passage with mine as I slipped and stumbled both up hill and downhill throughwell-trodden and deep snow. My destination - either to get to the top or to return back down kept me going and Ireflected how similar it is in the walk of faith; sometimes it is easy, but at other times it is really very difficult. It is theanticipation of my destination - the place that Jesus has already prepared for me, achieved through the crucifixionand Easter day events - that keeps me going, slipping and stumbling through life with my companion, Jesus ....that's living in the light of Easter.

MICHAEL CURRENT WALK - MARCH 5th SOMERLEYTON

Eight walkers and a very well behaved dog called Io set offeastwards as the showery rain cleared to walk from theDukes Head at Somerleyton. Although muddy underfoot onthe paths it was a real blessing to walk in the dry as it wasclear others were still experiencing the frequent winteryshowers. We passed the Somerleyton boatyard, ancient brickworksand railway station on our right before entering the woodsand detecting the Michael current as he crossed the path onhis journey from Black Mill, on the west side of the RiverWaveney, heading towards Somerleyton church. We contin-ued on the path through the woods with Michael, havingswung right towards Wicker Well water, somewhere to ourleft. Turning left up the next track we just reached Michaelagain before turning sharp right to continue on a track to thenext path junction with the Angles Way, where we turned leftand soon crossed the lowest point of the small valley there.Meanwhile Michael kept to our left and swung northwardstowards the church, which we could see ahead through thehedgerow.Where the main track turned sharply to the right we crosseda stile and took a footpath at the edge of the field headingtowards the church. This led us to the main road, which weimmediately crossed in order to approach the church andturn right onto a track to reach it. As we entered the approachto the church we were aware that we were entering theSomerleyton Estate. Michael kept to the left hand side of thetrack and reached the church tower via a very large, oak treejust before it. There were several dowsers with us and at theoak they found a portal and a star formation and detectedMichael entering the church then leaving again on the northside to head towards the statue in the adjacent field .The church, which had been opened specially for us, it isvery beautiful and has an outstanding rood screen, an inter-esting stone carved font and (apparently) a set of six very oldbells. There is a small church history pamphlet available andmost of us acquired a copy. There are other energy currentsand water courses nearby.Having spent a little time at the church we returned to thevillage of Somerleyton via the wide, grassy verge on the righthand side of the exit track, crossing the road itself to a clearfootpath where the road swings sharply to the right. Turningleft at the next, smaller road back to the Dukes Head wepassed the village pond on the right, which is a delight-ful place full of flowers and ducks. The next walk will be on Saturday April 9th. Pleasemeet at Somerleyton church for leaving at 2pm.

BELTON F.C.Belton Football Club have had another fantasticmonth, scoring 18 goals and conceding only 4 in4 games. This started with a hard away fixture atCaister A. Winning 3-2 and with the introduction oftwo more local youngsters things as always seemto look on the up. Further wins against ProstarWindows, Caister B and Sportsmans means thatthe club now look in good stead to finish 2nd in the

league. This would be a fantastic achievement with the currentsquad as there has been a lot of change at the club over thepast 12 months that has seen many players come and go.Club top goalscorer Connor Alford has now moved onto 29goals for the season.Make sure you check out beltonfc.com for regular updates andvideos of our games. The highlight of this past month would bethe 6-0 victory over Caister B where we blooded six 16/17 yearold local youngsters and were still able to run out comfortablewinners! The club is now looking to expand and hopefully getreserves on the go in time for next season. Thanks as alwaysgoes to Belton Historical Society and The Mariners Compass,Gorleston for their support.

MALCOLMS NATURE JOTTINGS

Siskin - Stephen Fitzpatrick, ofSandy Lane, Belton e-mailed me alist of birds visiting his gardenamong which was a Siskin (Cardu-elis spinus). Siskins are membersof the finch family mainly wintervisitors to Norfolk. They are resi-dent in some parts of the BritishIsles, chiefly in Scotland and Ire-land. Males are recognised by theiryellow and green plumage, yellow

rump, black crown and yellow cheeks, the femalecrown is olive green dull white chin and streaked. Bothhave forked tails. Nests are usually high up in conifer-ous trees and made of twigs roots dry grass and moss, lined with wool ,hair, and feathers. The 4-5 pale blueeggs ,lightly spotted and streaked reddish brown/softpurple are laid in late April/ May,with a second broodsometimes in June. The last time I observed Siskinswas in the U.S.A. where they have the same speciesas we do.

Woodpeckers - There are threespecies of Woodpeckers found inEngland, the Green Woodpecker,Great spotted and Lesser spot-ted, Stephen has the Great Spot-ted Woodpecker (Dendrocoposmajor) feeding in his garden. Thisis the most common of the Wood-peckers although hard to seewhen trees are in full leaf. Only

the male is recognised by the black upper-parts, whitepatches on cheeks, red on belly and tail coverts andcrimson back of the head, juveniles have red caps. Iexpect many readers of "Village Voice" have heard theloud "drumming" sound made by both male and femalebirds on dead wood. Among my many visits in the pastto the small wood in Belton it was always this soundthat I looked forward to hearing. The U.S.A. has 21species of Woodpecker I have observed some includ-ing the Red-Headed ,the Golden-fronted common inTexas and the Pileated Woodpecker seen in my friendsgarden in Idaho.

The two excellent photos with this article were takenby Stephen in his garden.

YOUNG AT HEART“Young at Heart” (for those of the tender years 50 or over)continue to meet each Tuesday of the month in the Churchbuilding, come rain or shine, between 10.00 and 12noon.On all Tuesdays, we chat and have coffee and light refresh-ments, sometimes enjoying a session of craft, or a quiz or atalk, singalong, etc. On the first Tuesday of each month, many of us share together in a traditional Holy CommunionService at 11.00a.m. We remember those we know who arein need of prayer. Collectively we sponsor a young lad of 14years old in Ecuador and look forward to getting news of hisprogress.

In addition to Tuesdays, we hold different and varied eventsas well. In February, we joined with some folk from BurghCastle to share in a “Lent Lunch” – a simple, wholesomelunch of homemade soup and bread – which was providedfor us. We took up a collection in lieu of the cost of a meal, and raised around £153 for a children’s project in Papua,New Guinea. As it was Lent, (a time when in the Church wetraditionally remember Jesus being tempted in the desert)we had a short talk about how we too can make goodchoices in life. The photograph was taken just after this meal.We are now approaching Easter with all its activities, butcontinue to meet together each Tuesday. Although we are aChurch group, all are welcome, men and women, whetherChurch members or not. We would be glad to see you if youwould like to come along. Young at Heart would like to wishyou all a very special Easter.Jane Mill

FRITTON CHURCH

The photograph shows the progress being made by Master Thatcher Mr GaryStokes on the re-thatching of the north nave roof which, all being well, shouldbe finished by early April. The netting is coming off the historical Apse roof anda sedge ridge will be thatched on.

This highly skilful restoration work has been made possible by the overwhelm-

ing generosity of the local communitypast and present following 'Buy A Bundleof Reed' Fritton Church Roof Appeal. StEdmunds has also been supported by adonation by The Round Tower ChurchesSociety.A big thank you to all who have respond-ed to our request for people with connec-tions to the church church to help buy1,500 bunches of reed at £3.50 eachneeded to rethatch the north side of naveroof. I am pleased to report that all 1,500bunches have been purchased. All fur-ther donations received will go towardsthe cost of sedge for ridge and wire net-ting to hold the thatch in place and keepbirds out.
