PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE

You may have heard the song that is usually sung by our youngest members: “I am the church, you are the church, we are the church together”. The song reminds us what the church is as well as what the church isn’t. “the church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place”. You could also add to that, “the church is not a Pastor”.

This church is blessed with a beautiful sanctuary, a bell tower and steeple that set us apart in Leander, and with a long line of pastors who have led with courage and compassion. But the church is a people. More specifically, the church is you.

In a few months, Leander United Methodist Church will have a new senior Pastor. It is so easy to get anxious and concerned about the “what-ifs” of a pastoral change. It is easy in the midst of change to retreat, to flee the uncomfortable unknown and the uncertain future. We are tempted to become passive, to feel powerless and diminished. But what every change reminds us of is who the church really is. It is made up of those who love God and love one another, those who trust and follow Jesus Christ and find their Joy in his saving Grace, it is made up of the friendships, the acts of service, the prayers, and the times of worship together.

Leander UMC has been through many changes over its long history. In the midst of these changes I ask you in the name of our saving Lord, lean into being the church. Take this period of transition as an opportunity to be your best self. Pray more frequently, serve more boldly, share more generously, care more compassionately, listen more attentively, trust more courageously, laugh more joyfully, cry more tenderly. Be the church at your best in the midst of change and you will see the church you love become more than it has ever been. “I am the church, you are the church, we are the church, together”.

Grace and Peace

CROP HUNGER WALK SUNDAY, APRIL 7

2:00 PM BRUSHY CREEK TRAIL @ THE CEDAR PARK YMCA

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events spon-sored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations to raise funds to end hunger locally and around the world. We are organizing a Walk on April 7. CROP Hunger Walks help to support the overall work of Church World Service, particularly grassroots development efforts around the world. In addition, each local CROP Hunger Walk can choose to return up to 25 percent of the funds it raises to hunger-fighting programs in its own com-munity as the Leander Cedar Park Walk does for Hill Coun-try Community Ministries.

CROP Hunger Walks help to provide food and water, as well as resources that empower people to meet their own needs. From seeds and tools to wells and water systems, the key is people working together to identify their own development priorities, their strengths and their needs - something CWS has learned through 70 years of working in partnership around the world.

You can donate now on-line at www.crophungerwalk.org/leandertx. Participant packets are available by contacting Roger Brandimarte: [email protected].

A HANDS-ON, MULTI-SENSORY

EASTER EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES

SATURDAY, APRIL 13

11:00 AM-1:00 PM (COME AN GO AT WHATEVER TIME BEST SUITS YOU)

Families are invited to an interactive hands-on, multi-sensory experience

designed to help children connect the baby Jesus of Christmas to the

Resurrected Jesus of Easter. Journey through a series of “stations”, each

representing a different part of Jesus’ story. Swaddle a baby; get water

poured over your head like John the Baptist might have poured water on

Jesus; make a special prop to tell the story of a miracle; make a coin like

the one Jesus used to pay his taxes; try healing someone who is sick and

learn how it was a miracle that Jesus could do it instantly; learn about

how Jesus loves every one of us; see how it might have felt to welcome

Jesus to Jerusalem; write a letter to Jesus using a rooster feather; and

find an empty tomb. Finally, we will have several ways for you to express

what Easter means to you with paint, pipe cleaners, play dough, rocks,

plants, music, and maps so you can trace Jesus’ life throughout the area

of the world where He lived as a human. There will be snacks and a spe-

cial egg for you to open on Easter morning.
