Greetings Neighbors, Happy Easter! May your day be a joyous one! Sadly, this is the time when we begin to say goodbye to our snowbirds. No matter when you leave in the next month or two, travel safe and stay healthy! For those of us remaining, let’s hope that with many residents vaccinated, things at the clubhouse will begin to open up more and we can see a semblance of normality. Marty Guzowski Editor

Sunshine Report (contact Phyllis Congdon or BOD member with information 352-291-4946)

We are happy to announce this news at Saturday Coffee and/or publish in the newsletter. However, because of privacy laws, we must have the information from the patient or a designated person. This information can go to Phyllis or be taken from the patient on Facebook.

Hospitalization/illness: Milda Kolesar had knee surgery and is home recovering. Dave Koester and Charlie Parkinson are both in the hospital and hopefully will be home soon.

Bereavement (contact Suzette Brown 603-801-9927)

With regret, we report the death of Jim Fritz (Lot #159), a long time and very active resident at Saddle Oak Club. He leaves his wife, Fran and their family.

Interfaith Donations to Fred & Joyce Mullen

Interfaith donations can be dropped off anytime during the month with a deadline on the last Wednesday of each month to Fred & Joyce at 5572 SW 58th Pl (gray house across from entrance to dog park and storage area). Leave donations on steps if they are not at home. For questions or more information call them at 352-300-3482. Leave message and they will return your call.

Be a Good Neighbor SOC is a wonderful community in which to live. In the past, we have had a neighborhood cart driven by volunteers who would travel the community. Currently, there is only one couple driving the community and the cart is beginning to show wear. The Board decided not to replace the cart when it no longer runs. Instead we are counting on residents to be good neighbors and look out for each other. If you see something, say something!! If you see water running down a driveway, newspapers piling up or someone who has fallen and needs help, see what you can do to help. If you are worried about a resident’s safety, call 911. .

Page 4

SOC Prayer Group

Sharon Garfield, the leader of the SOC Prayer Group wants residents to know about their group that meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the clubhouse. The sessions which start at 10:00 am include a prayer for our country and prayer for our health and safety. It is not a political group and everyone is welcome. In addition they have a Facebook group, which includes a daily prayer. If you have any questions, you may contact her at 810-577-3916. Sharon Garfield is also interested in supporting people when someone dies within the community. As she posted on Facebook and in conversations, she would like to be the point person in providing a meal for a family who’s had a death in the immediate family. She will coordinate with our bereavement chair person, Suzette Brown. If you are interested in helping with this effort by providing food, please contact Sharon at 810-577-3916. If you don’t consider yourself a cook, you could provide a pizza, or a restaurant meal, anything that lightens the load at a difficult time.

HELP WANTED Welcome Committee – Fred and Joyce Mullen need to resign as the welcome team. Are you someone who enjoys meeting new people? While things are a tad difficult at the moment, this too shall pass. Basically the job requires you to meet the new people, give them an informational packet, take a photo, fill in an information sheet online and return it to Gloria Paige to go in the newsletter. If you have questions, contact previous Welcome committee chairs – The Mullens, The Sirois and The Carsons. FMO Representative – Thank you to Ellie Jackson who has agreed to represent us with the FMO (Federation of Manufactured Home Owners of Florida, Inc.). The FMO is an organization that helps manufactured home communities of all different types. While our HOA is basically a social organization, the FMO represents us with Florida’s state legislation.

Blood Drive

The next blood drive will be on Thursday, April 22, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the clubhouse. Please do not use the golf cart parking spaces so there is room for the bus to park. Sign up online with One Blood to make an appointment.

Welcome Back, Boys! Men’s breakfast will resume on Wednesday, April 24 at 8:30 am. This month they will meet at Denny’s. Please sign up on the clipboard in the clubhouse. If you are new to the community, you are welcome to come. A few men gather to eat and talk at a local restaurant on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. This would give you a chance to get acquainted. (Women have a luncheon, but we are a much larger group, so I think we’ll wait a little longer.)

The owners, Jerry and Renee want to be your hometown exterminator and welcome you to the Bug Doctor family. Whether it’s lawn, pest or termite, we handle it all!

Single Malt Band with our resident, Pete Ellis and his friends, came to practice on Saturday, February 27. They set up at the shuffleboard court and residents came to listen. People caught a patch of shade, visited with friends, danced or ate a meal. It felt good to get outside in the fresh air and see each other.

On Monday, March 22, at the clubhouse, Sun Communities sponsored a vaccine event for residents. Thank you, Kathy, and also Sun Communities. Many of us were able to obtain vaccine shots elsewhere. However, this was a wonderful service for those that had not gotten them elsewhere or were waiting for the J&J one shot.

On Saturday, March 20, there was 2021 Trivia night led by Kathleen and Bill Sirois. We had 4 teams of 5 or 6 randomly selected players who tried to answer questions on various topics. What we learned is that we don’t know everything, but teamwork does help. Regardless, we had fun and plan to do it again on April 3 at 4:00 pm. Please come join us to have fun and get to meet some new people.

We regret to inform you of the death on March 8th of longtime resident Jim Fritz. He and his wife, Fran, moved to Saddle Oak Club on Valentine’s Day in 1987, 34 years ago. They came from

Michigan where Jim was a police officer. He retired in 1981; he was retired longer than he worked.

While living at SOC, he became a very active member of the Homeowners’ Association, serving 2 terms on the Board of Directors and becoming one of the first presidents of the HOA. Using his background in law enforcement, Jim organized the original Crime Watch at SOC with the Marion County’s sheriff’s department.

Jim enjoyed an active life. He was an avid golfer and bowler. For many years, he was a member of the SOC bowling club. He helped Fran create the newsletter. They typed up all the pages, took them to the office where they Xeroxed them, and then took the pages to the printer.

Thanks to Jim, we have 50/50 which we now call Share the Wealth.

The community thanks Jim Fritz for all he did for SOC and express sincere condolences to Fran and their family.
