Congregation Input Opportunity Every May the Ministry and Personnel committee do annual reviews with our ministerial staff – Laura, Debra and Brian.

This review is an opportunity for the ministers to tell us about their work during the past year – the things they feel are working well and are fulfilling for them and the things they feel might be improved or changed.

Our committee would appreciate input from members of the congregation regarding our ministerial staff. If you have any concerns, please let us know. And if you have positive bouquets for them, please let us know.

The following are a couple of questions you might give some thought to as you consider your input for these reviews.

1. What is your perception of how our ministers relate with individuals, families and groups at McClure and in the wider community?

2. What is your perception of how our ministers relate with other members of the staff? Thank you for your valuable input. Please send your reviews/comments to Lynn Dittmer, Chair of Ministry and Personnel, at [email protected] . I would appreciate your responses by May 10th.

2019 City Wide Food Drive Date: Saturday, May 4, 2019 Time: 11:00am –1:00pm

Over 75,000 bags will be distributed to homes in the city by the Star Phoenix in the week prior to the food drive. On each bag is a poster listing the Food Bank’s MOST WANTED ITEMS, and a request that the bags be filled and placed on doorsteps by 10:00am. Your team’s task is to go door to door in a designated area and collect the food.

Number of people needed? As many as can help. We will need vehicles to pick up the bags and others to ride to help with the collection.

Where do you collect? McClure is given two areas. In the past it has been Lakeridge and Lakeview areas. They will certainly be areas close to the church.

How does it work? You will be divided into groups and given a map for part of the area we are to pick up. Usually, one person drives and the others walk down each side of the road (one per side), collecting bags that are left on the doorstop and returning them to the vehicle. There will be trucks parked at locations across the city where your teams can take the food to. Elim Church (419 Slimmon Road) and Emmanuel Baptist Church (1636 Acadia Drive) are the locations from past years.

Your teams will be provided with Thank You cards to put in mailboxes of homes that donate food.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Sign up sheets are on the table where the Meals on Wheels lists are kept, or you can email me at the address below. Please sign up to help with this service project. Many who are less fortunate than us are needing our help.

If you are a resident of McClure Place you can bring your items to the McClure Place lobby and one of the drivers will pick up your bags.

For further information, please contact Carol Claypool at [email protected] or 306-664-2285.

Your help is appreciated.

Mark May 4 on your Calendar for “The Big Shred” Join us on Saturday, May 4 from 9 am to 12 noon for the Big Shred in the parking lot at McClure United Church at 4025 Taylor St. (at Heritage Way)! This is your chance to quickly shred old bank and utility statements, tax files (2012 and earlier), bills, files, and outdated documents which may contain personal information. “This is our 6th annual Big Shred,” said Rick Burton, Board Chair of the McClure Place Association and the McClure Place Foundation. “Other

years, we used the proceeds to help pay down the mortgage at Amy McClure House – our personal care home for up to 23 residents. Proceeds this year will go to towards completing payments on a new therapeutic tub!”

“Shredding your old private, personal or confidential papers helps to prevent personal identity theft,” says Wayne Pegg, Operations Manager at Shred-it, the partner company that sponsors their trucks and drivers. “The last thing you want is someone removing your information from recycle or garbage bins.”

“The service is a fundraiser. We suggest $10 per box, or $5 per shopping bag,” said Linda Tunney, Chair of the Resource Development Committee.

Declutter your space and help a good cause at the same time!
