Dear Fellow Rotarians: Celebrity Golf Classic Laguna Niguel Rotary's next big fund raiser is the Celebrity Golf Classic at Mission Viejo Country Club. The date is Monday August 27, 2007. The event will raise funds for South County Outreach and our Club’s charities and scholarships. Our Golf Committee is busy getting this major event put together and they need your help. They need all Rotarians to pick up the phone and sell corporate sponsorships for this event. Please don't say “no” when they ask for your help. Being a good Rotarian is never saying no to another Rotarian when they ask for your help. Even if you don't feel comfortable making these kinds of calls, make the commitment to call or visit someone who might help us with this event. Even if they turn you down, at least you will have asked and you'll discover it wasn't that difficult. Please make the effort to make this fund raiser a huge success. Dear Fellow Rotarians:

Celebrity Golf Classic

Laguna Niguel Rotary's next big fund raiser is the Celebrity Golf Classic at Mission Viejo Country Club.

Remember, we are in Rotary to do service.

Sincerely,

Prez Ken

Paul Russell, delivered a great presentation on the City of Laguna Niguel Emergency Preparedness Program.

Looking at the faces of our members, it appears everyone enjoyed it.

Afterwards, Prez Ken presented Paul with a certificate showing a contribution was made in Paul’s name to Polio Plus.

We met in Club 19 for the first time in my Presidency. It was a little cool, but we had a nice ocean view.

The inspiration was given by Ron Sinclair and the pledge was led by Prez-Elect Robert Ming and Robie Robeson led the singing.

Announcements: We had several distinguished guests in attendance. A new member was inducted today, Bill Leber, who was sponsored by Rod Hatter. Bill is a “Reverse Mortgage” specialist. He is a 20-year Laguna Niguel resident and a Harley riding buddy of Rod’s. In a previous life, Bill was the GM for the Flatibeau dealership in the Irvine Spectrum.

Rod also introduced two Laguna Beach Rotarians, Andy Turner and Harry Bithel, who donated $1000 to the Bob Margolis Scholarship, which were proceeds of a golf tournament that they hold in Bob’s memory each year.

Happy Bucks: Ed Gowen was Sgt. at Arms. Birthdays were celebrated by Jeanette Krembas and Ellen Fine who celebrated her birthday with an 8-day trip to Japan (she must have worn out several passports by now!). Joe O'CONNOR had a nice trip up to Big Sur. Ed Gowen and wife, Alice, took a trip to Westlake Village (no passport required) and stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel. Craig Thomas had the wedding tax blues, the cheapest cost per head for a wedding dinner or lunch is $150, ouch! Alex (Bob Brown’s partner) gave bucks for a good market. Rod Hatter gave “Excuse Me” bucks for hosting his Rotary group dinner, but forgetting to set a place for Vito Ferlauto and Karen, but they recovered. Vito said Rod was a BBQ Master. Sue Bialek gave “Brag” bucks for her workout program that has led to a 9 lb fat loss and a 7 lb muscle gain and her cholesterol is down 20pts (and she looks good too!). Cassie DeYoung gave “Late” bucks, but we were glad to see her and she gave bucks for her son, Scottie, who is recovering from knee surgery.

Program: Joe Davis introduced our speaker, Laguna Niguel Librarian Loretta Farley. Loretta told the Club about the upcoming Library expansion, which is being mostly funded by the City. The building will be expanded from 10,900 square feet to 13,945 square feet. The library has run out of room for books and have carts in the aisles to store books.
