PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD APRIL 9, 2017 SEEING CHRIST CLEARLY We start today looking through the portals of Jerusalem, seeing crowds of people, cheering and waving palm branches in the air. The whole atmosphere is one of joy, tri- umph, and celebration. We can get distracted or enthralled by the scene, and not see clearly the features of Jesus as he enters. But our readings from Isaiah and Paul’s letter to the Philippians clarify his features for us. He is the Suffering Servant, meek and mute before his captors and persecutors; he is the very image of the unseen God, yet will not clutch at equality with God before he endures his final confrontation in humility. Isaiah and Paul help us “behold the Lamb of God” before we hear the story of his final and greatest con- frontation. It is important that we see Christ clearly before we hear the account of his passion, for wehis Body through baptism, the churchnow bear his face. We must, with him, enter into this time of trial so we can, also with him, enter into his final triumph. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. THE LORD

APRIL 9, 2017

SEEING CHRIST CLEARLY We start today looking through the portals of Jerusalem,

seeing crowds of people, cheering and waving palm

branches in the air. The whole atmosphere is one of joy, tri-

umph, and celebration. We can get distracted or enthralled

by the scene, and not see clearly the features of Jesus as he

enters. But our readings from Isaiah and Paul’s letter to the

Philippians clarify his features for us. He is the Suffering

Servant, meek and mute before his captors and persecutors;

he is the very image of the unseen God, yet will not clutch at

equality with God before he endures his final confrontation

in humility. Isaiah and Paul help us “behold the Lamb of

God” before we hear the story of his final and greatest con-

frontation. It is important that we see Christ clearly before

we hear the account of his passion, for we—his Body

through baptism, the church—now bear his face. We must,

with him, enter into this time of trial so we can, also with

him, enter into his final triumph.

From the desk of our pastor, Father Tony Neusch

“The whole city was shaken and asked, “Who is this?” And the crowds replied, “This is Jesus the prophet,

from Nazareth in Galilee.” How do we answer this very important question? “Who is this?” The apostles Peter

tells Him, “You are the Christ the Son of the living God.” The crowds think he is a prophet king getting ready to rid

the People of Israel from their Roman overlords. The answer to the question holds all the world in the balance. Our

answer to the question, “Who is this?” holds sway over our entire lives. Because regardless of how we answer, each

answer demands a response. If he is just a teacher, then the response is different than if He is the Son of the Living

God. Our lives speak more profoundly our answer than any wordy reply. Let us during this Holy Week reflect

deeply on who He is.

Jesus Christ. With this letter I am asking you to help spread the

word about a regional Catholic workshop for those involved

in agriculture, which will take place in Big Spring, Texas, on

Tuesday, April 25, 2017. The

workshop is sponsored by the Diocese of San Angelo and a

national organization called Catholic Rural Life.

This workshop is for anyone in-

volved or interested in agricul-

ture -- producers, processors,

consumers, and anyone willing

to consider how our Catholic

document entitled

Vocation of the Agricultural

Leader. The keynote speaker will

be Mr. Jim Ennis, Executive Direc-

tor of Catholic Rural Life (CRL)

and currently the president of ICRA, Inter-national Catholic Ru-

ral Association. Mr. Ennis participated in meetings in Rome in

December 2016 culminating in a presentation of this document

to Pope Francis. The pope was very passionate about the

subject of agriculture during his address. “Your concern for rural

life, grounded in the vision of the Church’s social doctrine, is an

eloquent ex-pression of that imperative to ‘till and keep the gar-

den of the world’ to which we have been called, if we wish to

carry on God’s creative activity and to protect our common

home,” he said.

Registration forms are available in the church office.

Please register as soon as possible, that way hotel

reservations can be made, Fr. Tony will be attending

and 2 vehicles will be available for transportation.

Those attending will leave Monday, April 24, stay over-

night in Big Spring and head back on Tuesday, April 25

after the workshop.

Dear Rosary Makers, Gratefully, on 3.9.17, we received

the 1 box of rosaries you sent us. These items will be put

to good use and will help make a real difference in the

lives of those we serve. The needs of the Navajo children

and their families are many. Your continued financial

support will enable the Mission to carry on in this vital

work of offering hope where there is so

little. You have helped creat a circle of

love in New Mexico. Thank you! In the

Spirit, Chris Halter Mission Director

Dear Rosary Makers, Pilamaya, thank

you, for your generous package of rosaries. Together, we

provide Native American students with the guidance and

education they need to fulfill their dreams. Without you,

many thanks– for helping every child be proud of who

they are and embrace their rich culture. God Bless, Fr. J.
