April 2016 Reach – Nurture – Serve – Pray From the Pastor: Dear Church Family, I want to express my profound appreciation for everyone here at Mt. Olive and the hard work you all put into making our Easter service a success. We had 242 people in attendance this past Sunday! Please continue to be in prayer for those who were in attendance. If some of those whom you invited came, take the opportunity to follow up with them and ask them, “What did you think of the service?” It is amazing how this can lead to a conversation in which you have the opportunity to speak the truth of God’s Word. Please be sure to invite them back again. Remember that reaching the unreached for Christ and helping believers who have strayed to get back on track is not something we only do at Easter, but is “business year round” for us! Also, I am excited to share with you that beginning in April, we will be beginning a new sermon series through the Book of Hebrews. In this series we will begin to see the theme of “The Priest Who Helps Us Preserve.” As most of you know, in the fall of 2012, I started working on my Ph.D. at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Currently, I am finishing up my dissertation for the degree and I am writing my dissertation on Hebrews (I will graduate on December 9 th , “Lord willin’ and if the creek don’t rise”). Hebrews is my favorite book of the Bible and I have been and continue to be tremendously blessed by my study of it. I hope and pray that you will be too as we discover how Jesus provides us with the constant help to live our Christian life victoriously from start to finish! Notes from My “Prayer Closet"

A Valuable Life Lesson: Why We Need to Stay Connected to God Through

Prayer

I am certain many of you are familiar with “I Need

You Every Hour”; a beloved hymn by Annie S.

Hawk. Well, I heard it one Saturday night, and it

deeply touched my soul… at a time when I was

hurting. It was one of those moments I knew the

Holy Spirit was speaking to me. A 70-years old

friend, husband and father of three; a man who

loved God, but had no relationship with Jesus Christ

had taken his life. Needless to say I was shocked,

devastated, numb, and guilt-ridden by news.

“I need thee every hour, most gracious

Lord; no tender voice like thine can peace

afford.

“I need thee every hour; stay thou

nearby; temptations lose their power

when thou art nigh.”

Refrain: I need thee, O I need thee; every

hour I need thee; O bless me now, my

Savior, I come to thee.”

The first thing that came to mind was how grateful I

am to know God. God is not too big or busy to hear

my prayers. “Evening and morning and at noon I

will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my

voice” (Psalm 55:17, NKJV). I am so incredibly

blessed to have a relationship with Christ who takes

my every need upon Him. Just like He did over

2,000 years ago at Calvary’s cross. Jesus bore our

sins so we could have chance at new life; He bears

our burdens so that we can live life more

abundantly today. We only have to call on His name

when we feel temptation, and evil will flee.

“I need thee every hour, in joy or pain;

come quickly and abide, or life is vain.”

I found comfort in words that reminded me no

matter how bad my circumstance nor severe the

pain, the Lord is with me. The writing of Hebrews

said, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be

content with such things as you have. For He

Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake

you” (13:5, NKJV).

“I need thee every hour; teach me thy

will; and thy rich promises in me fulfill.”

“I need thee every hour, most Holy One;

O make me thine indeed, thou blessed

Son.”

Refrain: I need thee, O I need thee; every

hour I need thee; O bless me now, my

Savior, I come to thee.”

The task for all believers whether new or old is to do

the will of God; to surrender to the Lordship of

Jesus Christ. God has done so much for us, this

should be easy. Right?! But we are humans, born

with a sin nature. For example, I have a tendency to

be rebellious. Ask my mom or grade school

teachers. I was an excellent student, I just

“questioned authority.” That is an improper

standpoint for a Christian to approach life. It can be

viewed as arrogant, uncooperative, and a lack of

humility. Often we learn negative behaviors to

compensate for what we think are our

shortcomings. God created us as we are, and He

makes no mistakes. He does wants us to go about

our work day and lives, “not with eye service, as

men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing

the will of God from the heart,” (Eph. 6:6, NKJV).

The backbiting and grumbling around us will be

repelled, “and the peace of God, which surpasses all

understanding, will guard your hearts and minds

through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7). My final thought:

Jesus came into the world to, “seek and to save that

which was lost” (Luke 19:10, NKJV). Tomorrow is

not promised to us. I thought I had time to share the

Gospel with my friend. I did not.

Your Sister in Christ Jesus,

Debbie Henry

Prayer Pattern

April 1 to June 30, 2016

Praise Psalm 100:4 we enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Thank God for who He is and for what He has done.

Repent Psalm 66:18 spiritual cleansing is

needed in order to come near the throne of God.

Access Psalm 38:9 even though God know everything, even our sighings, still we go to Him with our needs, cares, and frustrations.

Yield Psalm 143:8 we trust God will show

us His will, in His time, and in His way.

Postures

Kneeling shows God you are entering into His

presence or asking Him for something

Standing shows God you are ready for marching orders

Walking shows God you are on the move for Him, ready for His battle plan

Bowing shows God that you honor Him because of who He is

Prostrate shows God that you are in awe of Him; desperate and hungry for Him to come and be with you

Uplifted Hands – reaching toward God; in praise or asking for something with arms open to receive it

Psalm 116

I love the LORD, because He has heard My voice and my supplications. 2 Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.

3 The pains of death surrounded me, And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow. 4 Then I called upon the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I implore You, deliver my soul!”

5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is merciful. 6 The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me. 7 Return to your rest, O my soul, For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

8 For You have delivered my soul from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from falling. 9 I will walk before the LORD In the land of the living. 10 I believed, therefore I spoke, “I am greatly afflicted.” 11 I said in my haste, “All men are liars.”

12 What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me? 13 I will take up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the LORD. 14 I will pay my vows to the LORD Now in the presence of all His people.

15 Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His saints.

16 O LORD, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your maidservant; You have loosed my bonds. 17 I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of the LORD.

18 I will pay my vows to the LORD Now in the presence of all His people, 19 In the courts of the LORD’s house, In the midst of you, O Jerusalem.

Praise the LORD!
