Our chapter was involved in a lot of different events and the month of March seemed to fly by! We kicked

off the month on 4 Mar with a Basket Weaving class at Suzie and Bill Jacobs’ house. She had seven attendees

and we all had a lot of fun and laughter learning to weave a basket! On 6 Mar, Mike Haslup led a ride to Old

South Smokehouse in Port Deposit to support Multiple Sclerosis Day. He had 13 attendees with 6 bikes and a

couple 4-wheeled vehicles. Then 9 Mar we had our first CH-H Ice Cream Social for 2016 at the Dairy Queen in

Rosedale. This was a great turnout and the chapter paid for the ice cream! (Remember you never know when

the chapter will pay for the ice cream!!) On 12 Mar five staff members attended the MD District Spring Staff

Meeting that was held in Edgewater. We learned about some upcoming changes that are in process to the Rider

Ed Program which will affect Parking Lot Practice (PLP) and to the Couple of the Year (COY) program. There

are also some changes regarding the financial side of our chapter but Fran Haslup, our Treasurer, has that under

control. Unfortunately our scheduled 13 Mar Spring Fling Ride (formerly called Frozen Chosen) had to be

cancelled due to the incoming inclement weather and was rescheduled for 19 Mar.

APRIL NEWSLETTER 2016

“Mason-Dixon Wings”

Greetings from our Chapter Directors

MD-H Chapter Meeting – 4th Sunday at Golden Corral, 706 S. Philadelphia Blvd., Aberdeen, MD

Breakfast at 0800; Meeting at 0900

Page 2: APRIL NEWSLETTER 2016 - gwrra-mdh.comgwrra-mdh.com/documents/April2016use.pdf · Ed Program which will affect Parking Lot Practice (PLP) and to the Couple of the Year (COY) program

Our Chapter Staff Meeting was held on 16 Mar at our place and as always we had a productive meeting.

Then on Mar 17th

, the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company offered their Annual Happy Saint Patrick’s Day

Dinner and several members had planned to attend but other commitments bumped this firehouse challenge

meal for those who had planned to attend. Finally on 19 Mar it was time for our Spring Fling Ride and Chris

and Marge led the ride. There were 10 attendees with five bikes and three cars. We ended up at the Lion’s

Pride Restaurant in Red Lion, PA and had breakfast – a delicious meal and very reasonably priced!

Our Chapter PLP was originally scheduled for 19 Mar but some unforeseen events caused us to reschedule

it to 23 April. Rodney and Shane are working out the details for that date. Watch for future emails containing

more information.

Then 20 March rolled around with multiple events for our chapter – and our chapter members successfully

did the “divide and conquer” so we had members at all the events! First was our chapter meeting and though

we were a little low on our members attending, everyone knew that those members were representing our

chapter at two other GWRRA events. Barbie, Sue, and Wendy attended MD-J’s Chapter Gathering prior to

attending the MD District Bowl-a-Thon where Cathy joined them. Barbie was our only bowler but she did us

proud with many spares and a couple strikes! Alice Surette had made arrangements in February for dinner and

a show, “Nana’s Naughty Knickers,” for CH-H members at the Rainbow Dinner Theater in Lancaster, PA.

Sixteen people, to include chapter members and their family members attended – the food was delicious and the

comedy show provided lots of laughs! Great entertainment enjoyed by all! A little birdie also told me that as

everyone was leaving, a couple who had also attended the dinner show heard the announcement that there were

GWRRA members in the house, so they stopped and talked to Kevin and Marge. Turns out that they were the

former Chapter Directors for PA-W back before the chapter had disbanded and then rebanded. Talk about a

small world!

Well that finally wound down our activities for the month of March. Let’s hope that we have great turn-outs

for our April events.

Don’t forget to note 241371 the ‘Upcoming April Activities’ and ‘Save the Dates’ events for May. Hope to

see many of you at the events!

Ride safe – and keep the shiny side up!

Don’t forget – somewhere in this newsletter, you will find hidden someone’s

GWRRA member number. If it is yours, tell Fran at the next gathering and you

will win a $10 Golden Corral Gift Card!

Winner must attend the meeting to collect their gift card.

Unfortunately due to a death in the family there will not be an article this month from our Assistant Chapter

Director.

Greetings all – This is the time of year when we are getting back into riding to remember to T-CLOCK your

bike. T-CLOCK is an acronym that helps cover the bike from stem to stern for a quick inspection. T-CLOCK

includes tires and wheels (check the bike tires for both thread, wear, and air pressure), controls levers, lights and

batteries, oil levels, chassis, and kickstand. Your Motorcycle Manual (MoM) will provide information needed

for your particular motorcycle. Don’t want to do this work yourself? Then consider scheduling your bike for a

complete service check prior to the upcoming riding season. And remember, don’t forget to have the warrant

work completed if your bike is affected by the recall on the secondary master cylinder for the rear brake on the

GL1800.
