Marching through March wasn’t as tiring as it sounds! Read Across America Week in celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday was a huge success. In addition to the daily trivia questions, we had lots of people come into school wearing faux mustaches, mismatched clothes, favorite hats, crazy socks, and most importantly what they wanted to be when they grew up! We also hosted Comic Con, where students dressed up as their favorite book/movie characters!

April will be a short month with lots of events. With spring break rolling in, what’s not to love? “Clean-up Clearspring” spruced up the classrooms, and on the 28th, Sports Day, we plan to see all sorts of future athletes - dancers, gymnasts, basketball, and baseball players. We hope it’s a hit (no pun intended)! Clearspring’s variety show, “Who’s Got Talent,” also promises entertainment, and will take place on the 21st. We plan to see performances from all grades, including singing, dancing, gymnastics, and even some comedy! Additionally, we’ll be having career day, so on the 27th, dress up as what you want to be when you grow up. 5th grade will also be hosting the Spring Dance on the 28th, which will be lasting all day. Get ready to bust some moves! Finally, the incoming kindergarten and 4th grade HGC orientations will occur in April, so whisk up the warmth to welcome our new students.

This is not an official May spirit day.

The Top 10 Fonts

We all have a favorite font we always use, whether we’re writing an essay, a story, or even a note. But sometimes, it’s a good idea to change things up a bit - and what better time to do that than spring? Here we’ve interviewed students at our school, boys and girls, about their favorite fonts. Then, we sorted the selected fonts into categories to make it easy for you to pick and choose the ones you like. We hope you find this information useful!

MINTY LEMONADE

1) Draw a few circles on the edges and corners of your paper. These will be the centers. You can

shade it or color it, but that will come later. 2)

3) Draw petals. You can make them triangles or

circles, but you can do a little bit extra by doing

neither and doing a hybrid, like I did. You can also

add details inside them like stripes or patterns if

you want to make it a little more unique. Make

sure you have at least 2 or 3 layers of petals.4)

5) Add stems and leaves. A stem is traditionally

curved, but you could make them straight or

jagged as well to add a more abstract vibe. Make

your leaves any size or shape you prefer. 6)

7) If you want, you can color your drawing.

What You'll Need:● One lemon

● Water

● Seltzer water

● 7 spoons of sugar - adjustable

● 2 spoons of pink salt - adjustable

● 3-4 Mint leaves

drawing a flower

cluster!

What You'll Do:● Slice your lemon in half, and squeeze the desired amount into the water.

● Stir in your sugar and pink salt, and add your mint leaves.

● Pour in the desired amount of seltzer water (for fizz), and enjoy your cooling drink. If you

want more of a minty flavor, let the drink sit in the fridge for a couple minutes.

A refreshing kink to traditional lemony drink!

This activity will…

REEL...you into a world of fun! Wanna be a “reel” magician? This spinner will amaze you and your friends!

What You Will Need:

1. 2 sheets of white paper

2. A black or dark colored marker

3. A plastic or metal brad (you can find them in bulk at the craft store)

4. Duct tape

What To Do:

5. Get your roll of duct tape, and place it on the paper. Trace out the circles, one on each paper.

6. Cut out each circle, and poke a small hole in the center of each. To make them exact, you can line them up, and then poke it.

7. On one of the circles, draw spiral growing out from the middle. Make it thicker, so then it seems like there are equal amounts of black and white.

8. Poke the brad through bath holes.

9. Take a rectangular piece of duct tape, and stick it on the back of the top circle.

10. Fold the tape over the form a handle.

“Through the Looking Glasses”Customizable Bulletin Board

* Only do with a parent’s permission*What You’ll Need:

● Cardboard ● Scissors● Designed, colored, or wrapping paper● Tape or glue ● 2 push-pins

What To Do: 1. Cut out a binocular shape out of your cardboard.

You can trace two circles or use a compass to draw this.

2. Choose a variety of patterned, colored, or wrapping paper. Then, choose your first sheet and place it on one of the edges of the cardboard.

3. Tape one side of the paper down, and then trace the outline, or circular edge, of the cardboard on the part of the paper that sticks out.

The paper that covers this part of the cardboard was originally a square, I traced the circular edge on the part of paper that stuck out, or wasn’t on the cardboard. Then, I cut on the line for a perfect fit.4. Tape or glue the rest

of the paper down. Continue steps 3 and 4 until you have covered all of the cardboard.

5. Place your bulletin board on the wall, and push two push-pins on either side. Make sure they go through the wall, as well. This secures your creation to the wall. Now, you can add any pictures, notes, or reminders, and stay organized for the coming of spring!

Here’s a picture of what Advika’s finished binocular

bulletin board looks like.

DIY Skittle EOS *Not to be completed without parental permission.*

What You Need ● EOS lip balm ● 20-24 Skittles ● Microwavable bowl● Knife● Coconut oil or cooking spray

What To Do1. With a knife, pop out the middle piece of

the EOS.

2. If there’s still lip balm in the EOS, carefully pop that out from the back of the middle piece. Store it in a Ziploc - you can still use it!

3. Rub oil inside the top of the EOS. If you skip this step, your candy will stick to the container!

4. Select 10-12 Skittles of the color(s) of your choice. Put them in a microwav- able bowl and heat for 20-35 seconds.

5. When you take the skittles out, the shell shouldn’t crack too much, and they shouldn’t be completely gooey. Transfer into the top of the EOS and push on them a bit for density.

6. Pop in the middle piece again, on top of the Skittles. Repeat steps 3-4 and transfer the Skittles on top of the middle this time. Make sure to really push them through the holes so that they stick to the Skittles on under- neath, and don’t break later.

7. Don’t put the bottom of the EOS on yet. Let it harden in the fridge or freezer for about an hour.

8. Twist the bottom on, and enjoy!

An Inside Look At

Mrs. Gray’s Office

1. What’s your favorite part of the job?Working with kids. Just coming to work everyday and interacting with this age. I mean, if I had to choose, you know, kindergarten through 5th grade versus older kids, even if that may be a little less stressful, I couldn’t imagine switching.

2. What age range of kids have you worked with? When you become a counselor, you get certified for grades K-12, so you have to do internships with all grades. I did 6 months high school, 6 months middle and high combined, too. It wasn’t harder, just a completely different job. It’s very future focused, and looks at jobs and credits; it’s mostly on academics, whereas in elementary school there’s more work with social and emotion lessons. There’s more planning and less working with the kids in middle and high schools.

3. What inspired you to become a counselor? Was your elementary school counselor a role model? There are a few things. Actually, my counselor was kind of the opposite of a role model. I didn’t have a good experience with any of my counselors; there were no lessons. I didn’t KNOW my ES, MS, and HS counselors. That’s one reason why I wanted to be a counselor, to change the way our next generation experiences these things. I was also always interested in psychology, and I had a lot of anxiety in school. I dealt with a lot of stress, too.

4. Why was Angelina Ballerina your favorite book?I don’t really remember - I was always a girly-girl. I did do ballet, and I liked it. Oh, and my favorite color was pink.

5. What’s your favorite food?I really like cheese, so anything cheese-related. And also coffee - that’s the first thing I drink with high-energy kids at home.

6. Suppose an elephant took your place as counselor. What advice would you give it?Well, I recently had a substitute last year, with the baby and all… so I guess the most important part of the job is making sure you have good relationships with the kids. It’s not about being perfectionists at lessons, or planning the best activities. You need to let the kids know you care. If they don’t know that, all the “best” lessons don’t matter. Get to know them. What do they like? What’s happening? Don’t just jump into the problem. What about their past; their family?

The book club is located on the playground. Try it out because I am sure if you like reading you will love this awesome club! The president of the club is Harrison S. in Mr. Hogue’s class. So far there are only three members, but let’s shake things up a bit and rise that number, and next recess, join the book club!

A Mini Mystery

Jean Ally and her friend Timothy Hawkins were about to walk home. “Wait!” Someone behind them shouted. It was there friend Roger Kambrol. “Someone took my paws and I don’t know who.” He said sadly. “I was hoping you could catch the thief and get my paws back.” “All right, we’ll find them” Jean agreed after a moment of thought. “Great!” Roger exclaimed, who was always liked a good

adventure. “I have three suspects for you guys. Dorothy Midz, Alyssa Peak, and William Garcia. I saw those three near my backpack where I keep my paws.” Roger said. Jean and Timothy went to get Dorothy, William, and Alyssa. When they found the trio, Timothy said calmly, “One of you took Roger’s paws, and I want to know who did it.” Dorothy spoke first. “I didn’t do it. I was just returning the pencil Roger let me borrow”. “Well I didn’t either. I wasn’t even close to Rogers backpack.” William said quickly. “Well I didn’t. I was just going to ask Dorothy a question about my hair. I saw her over there and went to ask her the question. By the way how does it look?” said Alyssa, who was always worried about her hair. No one bothered to answer Alyssa. Jean and Timothy talked it over and both agreed who the thief was. The next day at school, Jean and Timothy pulled Roger and William to the blacktop. “Roger, he stole your paws”, Jean said, pointing to William. “How do you guys know?” Roger asked. “It’s because we never said anything about your paws being in your backpack.” Jean said. William looked ashamed. “ Fine, I confess. I stole them because I barely get any paws.” “Well, maybe we can share paws”, Roger offered. “Really?” William asked. “Really”, Roger “Another case solved”, said Timothy. “Yup”, agreed Jean
