Valuable Tips to Help You Avoid Identity Theft.
One of the best habits you can develop is to use a shredder to dispose of all of your unwanted mail and other communications received on paper. Even some of the solicitations you receive to purchase items may have coded info about you in the mailing address on the envelope. Shredding instead of tossing is a good habit to develop.
There are other tips to employ that will help you avoid becoming a victim of Identity Theft. These are as follows:
• Periodically review your credit reports.• Shred your unwanted documents that contain personal info.• Lock up all of your personal records at work and at home.• Memorize all of your passwords and visit those sites online frequently. That keeps the password fresh in your memory, and you can inspect the site for irregularities.• Report any lost/stolen credit cards immediately to the companies.• Consider filing a police report if you have evidence of being a victim of identity theft.

EMPLOYEESPOTLIGHT
Stephanie OkulyStephanie has been employed at BSB for
two years. She works as a Customer Service
Representative and the Head Teller at our South Office. Stephanie enjoys NASCAR
racing, and her favorite driver is Tony Stewart. “I
really enjoy working at the South Office. I’ve gotten to
know some of our customers fairly well and really enjoy
the interactions I have with them on a daily basis.”
• Do not leave transaction receipts laying around, or at the gas pump, or at any other site of purchase. Always take them with you regardless of the amount of the transaction.• Be extra careful when ordering items online. Make absolutely certain that the website is secure before giving out your info. When ordering a product, consider using a credit card rather than a debit card from your checking account.• Match all of your purchase receipts to the statements you receive each month.• Always reconcile your checking account balance each month with your bank statement.• As a rule, never give out personal info over the phone or online unless you initiated the contact or you know the person you are talking to on the other end of the line.• Use strong passwords. That is, don’t use passwords that are easy to break like your mother’s maiden name, pet’s name, etc. Always use a password that includes both letters and numbers and does not use words from the dictionary.• Use different passwords for different accounts.• Avoid the use of “free wifi” locations. They are prime areas for identity thieves to operate. (ctdhe.org)
