Trainers' name: Alicja Bartosiewicz Level: B1/B2/ Aim: to practise emphasized adjectives and to distinguish between neutral and informal words. To practise intonation and strong and weak form of ‘was’ and ‘were’. Timing: 10-15 minutes (can be done as a warm-up) Materials Needed: one copy of activity per teacher Stages: 1. Fill in the missing words – group work or whole class activity. 2. Practice: teachers work in pairs. One asks the question, e.g. Was it cold? The other replies with an exaggerated intonation; Cold? It was FREEZING! This can be later turned into an exercise to memorize the vocabulary – one teacher tests the other, whose worksheet is face down. Then change of roles. 3. Follow up: whole class activity to identify informal words (e.g. complete nuts, utter rubbish, downright weird, hopping mad).
