ll About Number SeriesWhat is Number Series?

Number series is a arrangement of numbers in a certain order, where some numbers are wrongly put into the series of numbers and some number is missing in that series, we need to observe and find the accurate number to the series of numbers.

In competitive exams number series are given and where you need to find missing numbers. The number series are come in different types. At first you have to decided what type of series are given in papers then according with this you have to use shortcut tricks as fast as you can .

Different types of Number Series

There are some format of series which are given in Exams.Perfect Square Series:

This Types of Series are based onsquareof a number which is in same order and one square number is missing in that given series.

Example 1:441, 484, 529, 576?

Answer:441 = 212, 484 = 222, 529 = 232, 576 = 242, 625 = 252.

Perfect Cube Series:

This Types of Series are based oncubeof a number which is in same order and onecubenumber is missing in that given series

Example 2:1331, 1728, 2197, ?

Answer :113, 123, 133, 143

Geometric Series:

This type of series are based on ascending or descending order of numbers and each successive number is obtain by multiplying or dividing the previous number with a fixed number.

Example 3:5, 45, 405, 3645,?

Answer:5 x 9 = 45, 45 x 9 = 405, 405 x 9 = 3645, 3645 x 9 = 32805.

Two stage Type Series:

A two tier Arithmetic series is one in which the differences of successive numbers themselves form an arithmetic series.

Example 4:i. 3, 9, 18, 35, 58,

ii. 6, 9, 17, 23,-

Mixed Series:

This type of series are more than one different order are given in a series which arranged in alternatively in a single series or created according to any non-conventional rule. This mixed series Examples are describes in separately.

Examples 5:

11, 24, 50, 102, 206, ?

Answer:

11 x 2 = 22 +2 = 24,

24 x 2 = 48 + 2 = 50,

50 x 2 = 100 + 2 = 102,

102 x 2 = 204 + 2 = 206,

206 x 2 = 412 + 2 = 414.So the missing number is 414.

1.BThere are two series here2, 10, 18, 26, ... (Increase by 8)7, 22, 37, ... (Increase by 15)Hence, next term is 37+15 = 52

2.CGo on dividing by 6 to the next number

3.D1212 3 + 2 = 3838 3 + 2 = 116116 3 + 2 = 350350 3 + 2 = 10521052 3 + 2 = 3158

4.A46080 /12 = 38403840 /10 = 384384 /8 = 4848 /6 = 88/4 = 22 /2 = 1

5.C28=23+557=29+2888=31+57125=37+88166=41+125

6.DThe differences between two successive terms from the beginning are 7, 5, 7, 5, 7, 5. So, 40 is wrong.

7.BIn this question, if you start from the beginning, firstly the difference is 31, then the difference is 17, then the difference is 8. So there is no logic. If you start backwards,you can see that firstly, 1 is added, then 2 is added, then 4 is added, then 8,16 and 32 should have been added. So you have got the right clue. So 15 + 32 the first number should be 47 and afterwards, the series becomes + 16, + 8, + 4and so on.

8.C3-2=112-3=937-12=2586-37=49166-86=80(this must be 81=167-86=81)so wrong number in the sequence is 166difference between two sucessive numbers sequence would be1,9,25,49,81,121(square of 1,3,5,7,9,11)

9.E2nd term = (1st term) * 1 + 1 = 15 *1 + 1 = 16.3rd term = (2nd term) * 2 + 2 = 16 * 2 + 2 = 344th term = (3th term) *3 + 3 = 34 * 3 + 3 = 1055th term = (4th term) * 4 + 4 = 105 * 4 + 4 = 4246th term = (5th term) * 5 + 5 = 424 * 5 + 5 = 21256th term should 2125 instead of 2124.

ANSWERS AND SOLUTION:1(D)Explanation :By the rule of alligation, we haveCost of 1 kg of 1st kind rice Cost of 1 kg of 2nd kind rice 6.6 9.6

Price of 1Kg of the mixture 8.2

9.6 - 8.2 = 1.4 8.2 - 6.6 = 1.6Quantity of 1st kind rice : Quantity of 2nd kind rice = 1.4 : 1.6 = 7 : 8Quantity of 1st kind rice : 56 = 7 : 8=>Quantity of 1st kind rice = 567/8=49

2( B)Explanation :By the rule of alligation, we have% Concentration of water % Concentration of water in pure water : 100 in the given mixture : Mean % concentration 20 20 - 10 = 10 100 - 20 = 80=> Quantity of water : Quantity of the mixture = 10 : 80 = 1 : 8Here Quantity of the mixture = 16 litres=> Quantity of water : 16 = 1 : 8Quantity of water = 161/8=2 litre

3( A)Explanation :concentration of water in mixture1 = 2/9 (Since the ratio of milk and water = 7:2) ---item(1)concentration of water in pure water= 1 ---item(2)Now the above mentioned items are mixed to form a mixture2 where milk and water ratio = 7: 3=>concentration of water in mixture2 = 3/10By the rule of alligation, we haveconcentration of water concentration of water in mixture1 : 2/9 in pure water : 1

Mean concentration 3/101 - 3/10 = 7/10 3/10 - 2/9 = 7/90=> Quantity of mixture1 : Quantity of water = 7/10 : 7/90 = 1/10 : 1/90 = 1 : 1/9Given that Quantity of mixture1 = 630 ml=> 630 : Quantity of water = 1 : 1/9=Quantity of water = 63019=70 ml

4( D)Explanation :%Concentration of alcohol in pure water = 0%Concentration of alcohol in mixture = 42quantity of water : Quantity of mixture = 3 : 11Let the %Concentration of alcohol in the new mixture = xBy the rule of alligation, we have%Concentration of alcohol : 0 %Concentration of alcohoI in pure water in mixture : 42 Mean %Concentration x42 - x x - 0 = xBut (42 - x) : x = 3 : 11=42-x/x = 3/11=4211-11x = 3x=14x = 4211=x=311 = 33=> The percentage of alcohol in the new mixture is 33%

5(A)Explanation:Let that the number of boys = b and number of girls is gnumber of boys + number of girls = 41=> b + g = 41 ------------ (Equation 1)Given that each boy got Rs.12 and each girl got Rs.8 and Total amount = Rs.460=> 12b + 8g = 460 -------- (Equation 2)Now we need solve Equation 1 and Equation 2 to get b and g(Equation1)8=>8b+8g=841=328--------(Equation3)(Equation 2) - (Equation 3) = 4b = 460 - 328 = 132=>b=132/4=33

6(D)Explanation: Let the sum be Rs.xAmount after 3 years on Rs.x at 20% per annum when interest is compounded annually=P(1+R/100)^T=x(1+20/100)^3=x(120/100)^3=x(6/5)^3Compound Interest = x(6/5)^3-x = x[(6/5)^3-1] =x[216/125-1]=91x/125Simple Interest = PRT/100=x203/100 =3x/5Given that difference between compound interest and simple interest is Rs.4891x/125-3x/5=48(91x-75x)/125=4816x/125=48x=48125/16 =3125= Rs. 375i.e, the sum is Rs.375

7(B)Explanation:Let the mother's present age be x years.Then, the person's present age = (2/5 x) years.=> (2/5 x + 8/2) = 1 (x + 8)=> 2(2x + 40) = 5(x + 8)=> x = 40

8(C)Explanation:Let total number of men = 100Then, 80 men are less than or equal to 50 years old(Since 80% of the men are less than or equal to 50 years old)=> 20 men are above 50 years old (Since we assumed total number of men as 100)=>20% of the men above the age of 50 play football?Number of men above the age of 50 who play football = 2020/100=4Number of men who play football = 20 (Since 20% of all men play football)Percentage of men who play football above the age of 50 = 4/20100=20%=>Percentage of men who play football less than or equal to the age 50 = 100%-20%=80%

9(B)Explanation:Net part filled in 1 hour = (1/5+1/6-1/12) =17/60hrs =3 9/17

10(A)Explanation:We know that Angle traced by hour hand in 12 hrs = 360Time duration from noon to 10 minutes past 5 = 5 hours 10 minutes=5 10/60hour =31/6 hoursHence the angle traced by hour hand from noon to 10 minutes past 5 = 31/6360/12 =31/630=315=155
