Annexure 2 A Feedback on Library and Canteen Facilities

Library facilities:

A sample survey was conducted to gather feedback from about 100 students about the services provided

by the college library. The questionnaire comprised around 16 questions pertaining to various aspects of

library like quality of services, help rendered by the library staff, effectiveness of the book bank facility,

open access system, computerization, seating arrangement, collection of books, journals, CD’s,

newspapers etc.

Page 36: (AQAR) of the IQAC for the Academic Year 2014-15

36

A Likert scale was used. A large majority of the students expressed satisfaction about the collection of

books, journals, newspapers etc. They were also happy about the service provided by the staff; however,

the students opined that more numbers of books should be available for home issue.

Canteen Facilities:

Yet another sample survey was conducted to get feedback about the canteen services. Selected questions

were asked pertaining to the taste, variety, price of food items, overall hygiene, seating arrangement,

services etc. Students were asked to rate on a scale of 3 to 5. Suggestions for improvement were also

asked. A large majority of the respondents expressed satisfaction about the variety, cost and taste of the

food items. However, suggestions regarding improvement in seating arrangement and overall hygiene

were also offered by the students. There were also requests for serving non veg food and cold drinks. The

same was forwarded to the Canteen Committee which promised to look into the matter.

Annexure 2 B Faculty Appraisal

The College has a comprehensive system for appraisal of faculty by students. Students have to fill in a

questionnaire with multiple choice questions that cover all aspects of teaching. The feed back is taken

usually on the last day of internal test or semester end examinations so that almost all the students

participate.

Faculty members are appraised under the following parameters for each of the subjects that he/she is

teaching:

Subject knowledge

Ability to relate to the practical aspects and application of the concepts/theory etc. in real life

situations

Approachability

Willingness to clear doubts

Completion of the syllabus on time

Class control

Overall impression about the teacher

The system is computerized. After the completion, the reports are shared by the Principal with each

faculty pointing out his/her strengths and areas in which he/she needs to improve. This is done in a very

professional and non-threatening manner. The reports are strictly confidential. The outcome of the feed

back system so far has been positive. It has been observed that faculty members take it very positively

and work on their limitations. As a result the feed back of faculty over a period of time has improved in

most of the cases.

A sample computerized report of analysis of a faculty is attached for reference in which the name of the

faculty has been blanked out as the feedback is confidential.

Annexure 5: Career Guidance & Placement Cell Report

Our college believes in holistic growth and development of our students. This includes not just

imparting knowledge through chalk and talk but also places equal emphasis on all round development

through other curricular and extra-curricular activities. A very important role is played by Counselling

and Mentoring. Our institute has a strong history of mentoring of students by faculty and alumni on

academic and extra-curricular front. We also have a Career Guidance and Placement Cell. We have our

full-time faculty, Ms. Varada Trivedi , as our Co-ordinator. There is a team of faculty members from

degree and self-financing section who constantly work on arranging workshops, talks, seminars ,which

act as a guiding force for our students in taking informed decisions regarding their career. The team

also co-ordiantes with prestigious companies and firms to help our students in getting placement

assistance, summer/internship assignments.

We have two professional counsellors on board who help the youngsters deal with pressing

personal issues and academic and career related pressures. We have Ms. Shalu Mehrotra as our general

psychological counsellor and Ms. Sneha Perriera as our Career Counsellor. Sessions are held as

follows:

Once a week – 4 hours – For General Counselling

Once a fortnight – 2 hours – For Career Counselling

The counselling services are provided free of cost by our college. This is in view of the ever-

increasing competition and stress faced by the students. Lack of direction and proper counselling can

take a toll on them and leave them feeling helpless and lost. Over the years, this initiative has been

appreciated and applauded by students as well as parents. The proof of success of these services lies in

the fact that the number of students consulting the counsellors has shown a healthy growth. We no

longer have students shying away from visiting our counsellors for their issues. This has been our

major achievement as in our society, visiting a counsellor is still not a common practice and sometimes

the person visiting a counsellor is looked at suspiciously.

The academic year 2014-15 started with introduction and orientation of “Career Guidance and

Placement Cell”. This practice has been followed for years. It involves a small class to class talk about

the relevance of counselling, guidance and placement. Our co-ordinator along-with our counsellors

visits every class to generate awareness among students.

We had an eventful year with a host of activities which included talks, workshops, grooming

sessions and placement drives. Following is a brief summary of these events:

We believe in systematically guiding our students from time to time by conducting need based

programmes. Our popular workshops which were conducted this year also were:

MBA Workshop was a two-day programme with a target audience of MBA aspirants. Day one

was a general introduction to MBA as a career option, entry qualifications required, entrance exams

and admission formalities, cost – benefit analysis. Our speaker was Mr. Pradeep Shastry, IIM-

Bangalore alumnus . He also guided students regarding top business schools, their infrastructure, fees,

faculty and placement records. Day two was more focused on the pattern and trends of popular MBA

entrance exams and their different sections. Our students were guided as to how they can prepare to

maximize their score in written examinations and make a lasting impression through group discussion

and personal interview. Mock sessions were held for the same.

Page 61: (AQAR) of the IQAC for the Academic Year 2014-15

61

Resume Writing Workshop is another feather in our cap. Our resource person was Mr.

Rajdeep Bhattacharya, HR Manager – Asian Paints. He gave an interesting presentation emphasizing

the importance, dos and don’ts of resume writing. This was followed by a resume building exercise

wherein our students drafted simple yet impressive resumes.

Grooming Workshop was a new addition to our already popular series of workshops. We felt

there is a need for our students to learn the importance of personal grooming. Your appearance can be

enhanced by small and easy to follow tips and techniques which were shared by well-known grooming

expert Ms. Marisa Goel. This workshop had an overwhelming response with many students asking for

more such sessions with demonstrations.

Apart from regular counselling sessions, workshops/ talks, we also assist students in getting

internship assignments with various reputed organisations. This year our students had internship

assignments with RBI, Anand Rathi, Birla Sun Life Insurance , Big Bazaar, Habitat for humanity,

Anchor Electricals Private Ltd. Walls n Roof ,We Chat, Kraft Education Services. This was a learning

and enriching experience for them which we are sure will help them in their future career .We are

fortunate to have a diverse group of recruiters who approach us throughout the year. Some are from

financial sector, some from IT, a few from retail segment and quite a few are upcoming NGOs.

Placement drives were held for final year students. Our major recruiters this year were TCS, Tech

Mahindra, J.P .Morgan Chase and Datamatics.
