IQAC has conducted a workshop for the teachers on new format of NAAC and to fulfil
the requirements of NAAC for the next visits.
IQAC has encouraged all the departments to utilize UGC and IQAC fund for organizing
seminars and workshops.
Conducted two days workshop on “Academic Writing Skills”.
IQAC members are actively involved in the process of establishing Maharani Cluster
University
IQAC has motivated teachers to provide financial and moral assistance to the needy

1.4.2 How the feedback obtained is being analyzed and utilized for overall development of the
institution?
An alumnus, an industrialist, external academician being members of the BOS gives feedback on
curriculum which plays an influential role in curriculum. While giving feedback, Stakeholders suggest
the places with which the department can have Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) for the study
visits /internship training program. These are effectively utilized by the departments. Students’
feedback on facilities of rooms, timings of college, canteen cleanliness, hostel facilities etc is
addressed by the principal along with the respective committee.

2.3.2 Students mentoring system available in the institution?
Each teacher is allotted with 20 students for mentoring. The mentors are responsible for monitoring the
regularity, academic progress etc., of the students. They also give counselling for the personal
academic and psychological problems of students. The health issues of the students are also monitored
by the mentors. PTA meetings are held to address the various issues of the mentees.

Directorate of Collegiate Education(DCE) gives grants for the development of both UG and PG
courses and for the purchase of essential equipments, chemicals and other consumables total grant
– Rs. 9,08,000 released for UG courses and Rs. 7,25,000 granted for PG courses.
For the different facilities like electricity, water supply, unskilled labour and for tele phone Rs.
8,80,200
College receives grants from the DCE for the maintenance of physical, academic and support facilities like
laboratory, library, sports complex, computers, classrooms etc.. The maintenance which requires more than 5
lakhs e-tendering will be called .Tender notification will be published in the leading newspapers .
As per the dates the technical as well as financial bid will be opened in E-procurement cell of M.S.
Building (Multistoried building of Karnataka Government) . The tender documents will be
verified. Where ever more than one tender is not applied , recall for tendering is done. After
receiving the e-tendering comparison of quotation for both the quality and the price will be
verified. The most feasible e-tender will be identified and for that particular company information
will be communicated. After the supply of the materials, the cheque will be issued. The stock of
received materials will be maintained systematically in the stock registers under different
headings. The maintenance amount less than 5 lakhs quotation 3 bill quotations from each
interested firms will be received. At college level the lowest quoted firm will be accepted and the
same is communicated to that firm. Then the firm has to deliver, the specified items. The same
procedure as stated for the e-tendering is followed for maintenance of stock book. The received
materials will be distributed to the different departments based on their requirements.

meet on a regular basis and conduct meaningful activities under the aegis of the alumni association of Smt.

1. An executive meeting of the alumni association of Smt. VHD Central Institute of Home Science, was
held on 10thJan 2018.
2. The Alumni association and the Cultural association of Smt. VHD Central Institute of Home Science,
Bangalore jointly observed the Founder’s Day on Tuesday, the 16th January 2018 at 2.30 pm in memory of our
beloved founder Dr. Susheela Lingaiah, in the college premises. Justice. Rtd.B. S. Indrakala, High court of
Karnataka, a senior alumnus of our college was the “Chief guest” on this occasion. She spoke eloquently
about the towering persona of Dr. Susheela Lingaiah, our founder principal who was an inspirational leader.
Prof. R. Ramakrishna Reddy, Principal, Smt. VHD Central Institute of Home Science, Bangalore presided
over the programme.
CRITERION VI –GOVERNANCE, LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
6.1 Institutional Vision and Leadership
Motivate and train young girls to become agents of social change by stimulating their creative faculties,
powers of reasoning, reflection, confidence and competence.
Mission:
Smt.VHD Central Institute of Home Science strives to provide education not only to acquire knowledge
but also to inculcate a sound philosophy for holistic living, nurturing young girls to be sensitive to
social concerns, human rights, environmental and gender issues and also empower them to respond to
global challenges.

Offer excellent, value-based education in Home Science and allied subjects aimed at essential and
compassionate development of human capital.

6.1.1 Mention two practices of decentralization and participative management during the last year:
Framing of syllabus: Every department of the college has to formulate BOS for framing of the syllabus. The
staff members of the department are required to frame the syllabus for the courses offered from their
respective department. Initially the department members conduct an internal meeting to scrutinize the
syllabus. Then a workshop will be conducted with an external academician to take inputs. After incorporating
the inputs the prepared syllabus will then be placed in BOS meeting. The BOS committee has its composition
with two staff members of the department, one University nominee ,two external academicians , an alumni,
an industrialist. These members again scrutinize the syllabus to assure the quality and employability of the
syllabus offered.
Examination ,Evaluation and Declaration of results: the college appoint a staff member as controller of
examination to be in-charge for examination related works.

6.2.1 Quality improvement strategies adopted by the institution for each of the following (with in 100

Curriculum Development:
The curriculum development is based on the core content, employability and relevance to the
subject. The developed curriculum ensures that the students receives integrated, coherent learning
experiences that contribute towards their personal, academic and professional learning and
development.
Teaching and Learning
College is encouraging faculty for effective integration of technology in all content areas and to integrate
technology, pedagogy with the content. The faculty are motivated to balance direct instruction strategically
with project-oriented teaching methods. The teaching-learning process at the College is constantly monitored
and improved for betterment to the satisfaction of the students. Chalk duster method of yesterday is also
considered sometime whenever needed. Teacher is appointed as a mentor for a specific students group.,
Examination and Evaluation
The college follows the semester pattern in which Continuous Assessments (CA) and End Semester
Examinations are adopted for the academic evaluation of students. The CA includes marks for seminar
presentation, assignment, attendance and test papers.

Specific aspects incorporated into evaluation include the following:
Evaluation of assignments and seminars is carried out based on well-defined Criteria
The answer papers of test papers and assignments are handed over to students after the evaluation to
ensure transparency.
There is a feedback system on the results of internal assessment. After the continuous assessment
marks are finalized, it is exhibited on the class notice board so that students can verify it. If there is
any anomaly, they can meet the teacher concerned and further if required can approach the HOD to
present their grievances.
Each department has a customised field work evaluation system.
The End Semester Examinations (ESA) are scheduled, conducted and the answer papers are
evaluated .
Research and Development
All the post graduate departments of the college have affiliated research centers to cater students to
pursue their doctoral research. The staff members are encouraged to publish their research articles at
different National and International journals. The staff members are guiding Ph.D students and have
taken up research projects. Many staff members have completed minor and major research projects
under UGC and other institutes. As a part of PG Curriculum, students take up research dissertation as
partial fulfilment for completion of Masters degree.
Library, ICT and Physical Infrastructure / Instrumentation
.
Library has equipped with computer with software, internet with WIFI and LAN facilities for students and
teachers. The library website is linked to college website .It provides information about the library resources,
e-papers, e-magazines, job opportunity, educational websites and services rendered by the library.
In-house/ remote access to e-publications: Internet provided in the library helps users have an access to In
house as well as remote publications.
Library also provides Language Lab with language software . Library has a collection of 50,000 books.
Library receives grants from DCE every year for the purchase of books . It has UGC INFONET facilities with
6000 e-journals and 1,35000 e-books. Library services are fully computerised.

Gazetted manager takes the responsibility delegation and monitoring of various job ,s among the non
teaching staff.

Industry Interaction / Collaboration
For the visits /field work/ research projects departments have MOU with different industries / institutes/
hospitals/NGOS ..etc. . Industries conduct campus interview for the students periodically.

Smt. VHD is a Govt. educational institute following all the rules and norms laid down by the Department of
Collegiate Education, Govt. of Karnataka which has been striving to make quality higher education
affordable and accessible to all sections of students. College publishes big banners and pamphlets to
distribute to the different institutes to bring awareness among the public about the various courses offered at
our college.
With the attainment of autonomous status, online admissions is in place. Rules and regulations of DCE are
followed.

Government appointed external auditors from State Audit Department and Accountant General
conduct the external audit at the time of Principal retirement or change of principal. The auditing is conducted
for the expenditure incurred for Telephone/water/electricity etc., and for all the Quasi Government accounts .
For the UGC grants first internal auditing is conducted and then it is placed for the external auditing. If auditor
finds any discrepancies while conducting the audit , they seek for the clarification. Clearance certificate will

The Bharath Scouts and Guides Report for the year 2017-18
Smt. Vijayalakshi B. ranger leader and Meghana M.V was selected as student coordinators.
On 10.6.2017 to mark the occasion of Deenadayalu centenary celebrations various
competitions were held at “Kondajji Basappa Auditorium” Banumathi got Ist and Kavya II
prize in pick and speak competition.
Communal harmony fortnight was observed in our college from 20.8.2017 to 2.9.2017. We
started with “All faith prayer” followed by ‘Sadbhavana dina prathigne’ followed by essay,
collage, Skit and group song competitions.
On 16.12.2017 our rangers along with ranger leader participated in the Kondajji basappa
centenary celebrations at Jnana jyothi auditorium.
12 rangers attended Nipun testing camp held at Udupi from 4.10.2017-8.10.2017 and
successfully passed the examination.
14 rangers rendered their services at Mahamasthakabisheka at Shravana belagolo for 6 days.
Our rangers were exclusively appreciated by the commissioner and the organising secretary
for their selfless services.
On 23.3.2018 Women’s day was celebrated at Kondajji basappa Auditorium.Various
competitions were held to mark the occasion. The college student rangers Vidhya Bharathi
received 1st prize in Fashion show, Bharathi 3rd prize in memory test, Mariya Joyce and
Soundarya received 3rd prize in handy craft competitions.
On 28.3.2018 our rangers participated in Election awareness program organized by BBMP at
Kondajj basappa auditorium.
The student (09) rangers took part in the state level adventure camp at Antharagange in
Kolar conducted by the Bharath scouts and guides on 14th April 2018. In trekking, rangers of
our college were the first to reach the peak.
Our rangers took part in the “Save water” and “Save Bengaluru” program organized by
BBMP in collaboration with Wild life India on 2nd April 2018 at Kondajj basappa
auditorium.
The college scouts and guides wing celebrates Republic Day and Independence Day by
Saluting the National Flag in the college and all faith prayer at freedom Park.
