Safety guidelines for aquatic exercisePlease follow these guidelines for the benefit of yourself and other pool users:

Aquatic therapy contra-indicationsIt is recommended that the following patients do not use the pool:

• If you suffer from diabetes, angina, asthma or any condition which requires fast-acting medication, it is essential that you have this medication poolside

• Please bring bathers, a towel, water and a pair of thongs/scuffs

• SCOPE prohibits the use of talcum powder in the change rooms

• Thongs/scruffs must be worn at all times while in pool area

• Place all personal belongings in the shelves near the door, not in change rooms

• Please have a quick shower before and after your pool session

• Remember, the pool deck is slippery and general pool rules are to be followed

• Take extra care if you use a walking aid; crutches, walking stick

• Enter pool via steps, leaving your thongs at the top of the stairs, out of the water

• Be sure to drink plenty of water after your session

• Don’t forget to take all your personal belongings with you

• If you’d like another session, don’t forget to book an appointment

• “High risk” pregnant patients (eg. uterine bleeding, incompetent cervix, suspected foetal distress)

• Unstable medical conditions (eg. uncontrolled blood pressure, recent stroke)

• Uncontrolled heart failure, or uncontrolled kidney failure

• Unmanageable incontinence (bowel or bladder)

• Unprotected menstruation

• Raised temperature

• Infections of the following kind or similar:- cold, flu, vaginal thrush, ear and urinary tract

infections- open wounds which cannot be covered and

made water-proof (band aids are not adequate and need to be removed prior to entering the pool)

• If you have consumed any alcohol

• Diarrhoea and gastro-enteritis (you must wait 14 days after symptoms subside)
