Quality CoatingPreserving your Assets and Leaving Nothing to Chance

Ar-Tech is a specialist in the application of Internal and External Coatings and Paint.Corrosion costs industry and consumers billions of dollars, whether it be infrastructure, plant or equipment. Our results are measured by the extent to which your assetsachieve their designed life and our ability to eliminate any chance of premature coatingfailure. After 25 years of service, Ar-Tech has proven that we can deliver these results.

Coating failure can occur for many reasons but they can be grouped into five categories:1) Incorrect Coating Selection2) Poor Surface Preparation3) Error in Application/Curing or Mixing of the Coating4) Manufacturer Formulation Error5) Faulty Equipment Design or OperationAr-Tech gets the call to remedy field failures caused by inexperienced applicators.

Ar-Tech can mitigate the first three reasons due to our experience andunderstanding of the many details that contribute to coating success:• Ensuring proper due diligence in coating selection.• The importance of Surface Preparation and how contamination can

cause Blistering and Delamination. A white blast alone canteliminate salts and it is necessary to clean and test for them.

• Achieving proper mil thicknesses is crucial. Too thin a coat, maycause through film breakdown and pinpoint corrosion.

• Excessive thickness will create internal stresses and crack, especiallyepoxies. Insufficient curing occurs as the coating exterior curesfaster, creating a skin that entraps solvent leading to early failure.

• Sharp edges, welds, blind areas, and protrusions are common areasfor coating failure and require appropriate finishing and application.

Surface Preparation & Abrasive BlastingLaying the Foundation for Coating Excellence

Ar-Tech follows SSPC/NACEStandards, manufacturerscoating guidelines andcustomers specifications toensure correct surfacepreparation.

Critical aspects of surfacepreparation are substratecleanliness and freedomfrom salts, mill scale, oils, and other chemicals. Theprecise cleaning methodused is determined by thetypes of contaminants.

Abrasive blasting remainsone of the most effectivemethods for preparingsurfaces for coating. TheSSPC-AB standards outlinethe industry guidelines.Abrasive media selection, lighting, temperature, useof compressed air that isdry and oil free are all blastparameters that impact theeventual suitability of thesubstrate for coating.

Coatings typically require blastsurface finish of SSPC-SP 5. Thecoating manufacturers will alsospecify a certain surface profile, largely media dependent, toensure coating adherence tosubstrate.

Ar-Tech monitors these variablesfor each job to ensure processreliability. These records areretained on file or released to theCustomer to comply with theirtraceability or quality systems.

The pressure vessel pictured tothe left was prepared to a blastfinish of SSPC-SP5 internal andSSPC-SP6 external. The samecriteria applies to the complexareas such as the nozzles, grating, manway and baffles.

Ar-Tech is an experienced partnerfor completing jobs that will be 3rd

party inspected, particularlypressure vessels, tanks and pipesthat carry harsh chemicals and aresubject to regulatory oversight.

Ar-Tech’s Compressor Room produces “quality” air that

is dry, and filtered free of oil and contaminants.

Tank and Vessel CoatingAssisting in the Safe and Productive Operation of your Assets

Ar-Tech has amassed considerableapplication experience with a widevariety of materials including epoxies, urethanes, glass and metal filledcoatings. Need support with a project?Ar-Tech can provide insight to solutionsbased on our 25 years of project historyand access to leading experts.

Low VOC, high solid and fast curingcoatings require specialized equipment.Ar-Tech makes the necessaryinvestments to stay at the industryforefront for the benefit of itsCustomers.

Coating failure in the field will beexpensive. Factor in downtime costs, lost production and potential liabilityand an inadequate coating job does notmake sense.

Trust Ar-Tech professionals. Customerscan be confident in the training andexpertise of our coating teams. Trainedto work safely with quality in mind theend result will be a product finished toNACE standards.

Attention to detail is critical to ensuring coating integrity.Brackets, welds and supports prove challenging if not properlyprepped. Hard to reach or inaccessible areas are susceptible tolow/high coating or holidays, especially in confined spaces.

All of our Tanks and Vessels are inspected by in-house NACEcertified personnel to assure coating thickness and that it iscontaminant and holiday free. Ar-Tech offers a 2 year warrantyon all Tank, Vessel and Pipe coating. It’s a warranty we standbehind and to which our 25 years of service can attest.

Coating thickness verified through mil checks

Ar-Tech has purpose built facilities and equipment for the coating and curingof pipe, spools and risers for Chemical, Water and Oil & Gas installations.Preparation for internal coating includes the evaluation of welded joints forproper finish. We target a consistent holiday free coating throughout theinternals including bends and flange junctions. Our larger climate controlledcoating shop is complemented by an additional curing box capable of highertemperatures to reduce cure time.

Diameters from 2” and up can be coated. Multi-flanged spools with bendsor large risers can be coated and it’s the Customers option to have themexternally painted or coated by Ar-Tech in-house or have them suppliedprimed and ready for field paint. All pipe come with a 2 year warranty.

Some assets are designed to work. Some assets are designed tolook good. At Ar-Tech we believe you can have it both ways.

From drilling rigs to utility trucks, pipe to tanks….we have the paintsystem to ensure durability and appearance. Ar-Tech uses highperformance polyurethane, epoxy or enamel paint coatings. Ourpaint application professionals know the difference between apaint finish. Our Customers don’t want to pay for an automotivefinish on their field installations, but it still has to look great andthey want it to last.

Keeping up with the latest equipment and paint systemdevelopments in the marketplace benefits our Customers withtailor-made solutions that can fit their budget. Low VOC paintsnot only benefit the environment but provide safer workingconditions for everyone.

FacilitiesPurpose Built for Year Round Work on your Largest Projects

Ar-Tech constructed its facilities withtwo things in mind; 1) create optimalcoating & painting environments, 2)large scale for handling the big jobsthat are customary in our market.Ar-Tech made this investmentbecause barns and multi-purposeshops are not conducive toprofessional results.

Dry conditions are crucial forblasting. Post blast the clock startsto tick on the next step in theprocess. There is a short window, less than a working day, until rustblooming begins.

Substrate and ambient temperaturesand humidity have to be controlledto attain the best possible coatingconditions. Air temperature, steeltemperature, humidity and dewpoint are readings that are allmonitored and recorded as part ofour quality system. Ar-Techsbuildings rely on in floor radiantheating and sophisticated ventilationto optimize conditions.
