From the Desk of theExecutive Director

The Origin of ChristmasObserved on Dec. 25, Christmas

celebrates the birth of JesusChrist, the central figure inChristianity. According to

Christian tradition, the infantJesus was born to the Virgin

Mary, placed in a manger, andvisited by shepherds and wisemen. Nativity scenes depictingthese figures in a stable setting

are popular holiday decorations.Other common Christmas

symbols, such as evergreen treesand Yule logs, originate from

ancient celebrations of thewinter solstice. Those whocelebrate Christmas often

exchange gifts with loved ones, and children look forward to

    receiving gifts from Santa Claus.

Whether you celebrateHanukkah, which begins atsundown on Dec. 12th, or

Christmas, we want to wish youand your families all the best

throughout this special holidayseason. Watch for upcominginformation on all the events

    scheduled for this month.

With God’s blessings,Pat Redner- Executive Director

    The Babe in the Manger

Galatians 4:4 - But when theright time came, God sent his

Son who was born of a womanand lived under the law. (NCV)

Everything happened infulfillment of Scripture. Jesus

was born in Bethlehem, a townwhose name in Hebrew means

“house of bread.” His crib was amanger, or feeding trough. But

the people of Israel did notunderstand that He was the

Bread of Life. He was wrappedin strips of cloth so they did notrecognize him as the new Kingand God Incarnate. He entered

this world in an utterlydependent state, demonstratingan act of humility; a trait whichcharacterized His entire earthly

    life.

Reflection on the Babe in theManger - How has His birthtouched our lives? Have we

taken time to let God’s love fillus with the real joy of

Christmas? If so, then we will beable to experience the same

transformation that affected theshepherds, wise men, and all theothers who came to the manger.
