Stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour. - Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Fourth Sunday of Advent - December 20, 2020 Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Dear parishioners, By next Sunday, we will have already celebrated the great feast of the Nativity of the Lord, God being born among us as man. It is a day of rejoicing and gladness, a time to exchange gifts and enjoy the presence of family as we remember the greatest gift we have ever received: God being present with us. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic some of you may not be gathering with family as you normally would. If this is the case, just know that the Lord is always with you, and that you are always welcome here among us. When God was incarnate as one of us, he brought Heaven down to earth. He brought down the in- finite to meet the finite, and so revealed himself as Emmanuel, God with us. The Lord came to meet us here, but he never meant to leave us here. The birth of Christ invites us all to look at the world in a new way, and to recognize that God has called us onward out of the world even as he has redeemed the world. He was in the world but not of the world, and so too now are we. We continue to meet Christ in the flesh today every time we go to church and worship him in the Eucharist or receive him in Communion. At every Mass, the mystery of Bethlehem, and of Calvary, is made present again. Mass is meant to lift us up out of the realm of time and into eternity, so that through contact with the God who comes to us, we might gain the strength to walk towards eternity while still in the realm of time. As a side note, emphasizing this aspect of the Mass is part of the reason that I’ve been trying to broaden the hymn and chant selection as I mentioned last week. Contacting the divine means stepping out of our comfort zones, accepting that God meets us where we are only to bring us to where he is. Blessings, Fr. Jonathan Queridos feligreses, Bendiciones, P. Fourth Sunday of Advent - December 20, 2020

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church

Dear parishioners, By next Sunday, we will have already celebrated the great feast of the Nativity of the Lord, God being born among us as man. He brought down the in-finite to meet the finite, and so revealed himself as Emmanuel, God with us.

DSF Report-December 11, 2020

Needed to Reach Goal $ 2,311.91 - Due by December 31, 2020

Parish Goal $45,000.00 Total Paid $42,688.09 Participants 177 We extend our deepest thanks to the 177 families that have contributed to the parish’s DSF Goal, and invite those families that have not participated, to prayerfully consider doing so by December 31, 2020. Every dona-tion matters! Our goal is assessed by the Archdiocese, and if we do not make our goal, the parish will be re-sponsible for paying the balance in January. If you are unsure about how to make a donation, please call the parish office - 979-885-3868, and we will be happy to assist you.

Mass Intention Guidelines The practice of requesting a mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and wonder-ful part of our Catholic tradition. One mass intention per mass will be accepted with the exception of the Sunday, 9am mass. This mass will always be designated for the people of the parish. In special circumstanc-es, collective mass intentions will be accepted for the Wednesday evening mass and the Friday morning mass. (Collective mass intentions may include intentions from several families). Fr. Jonathan remembers each intention in his private priestly prayers before each mass. Call the office for more information.

Please take a moment to admire the Tree of Giving in the Narthex. New names have been added as a result of memorial donations made this past year. This is a very special way to remember our dearly departed.

Prayer for the Faithful Departed

Into your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our sisters and brothers. In this life you embraced them with your ten-der love; deliver them from every evil and bid them eternal rest.

The old order has passed away; welcome them into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain, but fullness of peace and joy with your children and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

May their souls, all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
