THE WALTERS-WAGAR COLLECTION

This collection of family papers, photographs, cards, scrapbooks and pamphlets was prese nte d to the Lennox and Addington County Museum by Dr. Allan Walters, in memory of his parents, Charles A. Walters (1879-1963) and Stella Wagar Walters (1884-1978).

11 Here it is all war, the 1916-17 horrors and all the excitement and and fascination it had for the school boys who were audience at the great tragedy.

I had the wonderful advantage of t he Illustrated London News often, the New York Times weekly coming regularly from Albert Bartlett in Rochester t o me, the Toronto Sunday World always and the Mail and Empire Daily. As well, Miss Jessie Mdir, Mary Fra ser and Elsie Parks were my teachers at the West Ward School in those years -- what a tutelage!

BOX 20: Stella Walters• Cookbooks

Dr. Walters offered to the Museum a large collection of recipes, collected by his mother, Stel l a Wagar Walters from her marriage in 1906 until her death in 1978 . Most of the collection consisted of thousands of undated clippings from unidentified newspapers, most extremely acidic and discoloured, fragile - some stained and incomplete. There were also a number of cookbooks obtained as premiums with certain products, as well as a number of common, published cookbooks. The historical value of this material was limited.

However, in the group offered by Dr. Walters were a number of very interesting cookbooks. These have been kept by the Museum . Each offered one or more special features such as: association with a local business; association with a Canadian business, plus an early date; quality of illustration; or documentation of a particular fashion in food.
