CLIMATE

Daytime temperatures from

23-50F with lower temperatures

in May departures compared

to June. The air is very dry

and expect 24-hour sunlight.

The spirit of adventure has taken Françoise to some of

the most remote and challenging places on earth. She has

snorkeled and scuba dived during Arctic expeditions in

Labrador, Baffin Island and Greenland. She has participated

in a number of oceanographic expeditions focusing on the

study of hydrothermal vents, submarine canyons and deep-

sea species.She loves sharing her passion for the wild places

and their inhabitants through another passion, award-winning

photography. Françoise consistently strives to support your call

for adventure by bringing you closer to the magic of the earth’s

last great wilderness.

and wild environments around the world, Dave's primary

focus liesn in Canada’s High Arctic. His ingenuity, energy and

adaptability are invaluable assets for leading unpredictable,

dynamic, and fun expeditions. He is a passionate nature

photographer & explorer, and always aims to get his guests into

the best viewing position at the during the most advantageous

times. In the off-season, you can find Dave seeking out new

adventures, notably a recent sea kayaking expedition though

more than 1,200 kilometers of New Zealand’s eastern coastline.

                                                                ItineraryARRIVE IN THE HIGH ARCTIC

Fly from Ottawa to Iqaluit, and then to Pond Inlet. Meet your trip mates and guides in this scenic hamlet

surrounded by beautiful mountains, fjords, and glaciers. Transfer by private plane to the stunning camp location

just outside Sirmilik National Park on a remote beach in Navy Board Inlet. Upon arrival, settle into camp a few

miles from the floe edge.

DAY 1

Meals: D

VENTURE TO THE ICE FLOE EDGE

Spend the next few days adventuring daily around the ice floe, exploring by qamutik and snowmobile. See the

warming spring weather working its magic with icebergs, small "bergy bits," and playful seals poking their

heads up out of the water. Have plenty of time for unhurried observation and impressive Arctic photography. Be

prepared for lots of surprises!

DAY 2

DELIGHT IN MAGICAL WILDLIFE

Be amazed at the greatest highlight of the trip — the opportunity to observe a wide variety of Arctic wildlife in

their natural habitat. On the floe edge, look for narwhals, bowhead whales, polar bears on the prowl for seals

sunning themselves, and possibly walrus and beluga whales. In Bylot Island uplands, keep an eye out for Arctic

foxes and hares, weasels, collared lemmings, snowy owls, rough-legged hawks, and gyrfalcons.

KAYAK AND SNORKEL IN ARCTIC WATERS

With the guidance of your trip leader and support staff, choose to kayak and snorkel in amazing Arctic waters.

Kayaking and snorkeling will be offered, weather depending, on most full days at the floe edge. Staff will keep a

lookout for wildlife from the ice floe to maximize opportunities to see animals underwater.

DAY 4

EXPLORE ANCIENT INDIGENOUS SITES

Have the chance to explore fascinating Thule sites, including their traditional tent rings. Learn about the history

and culture of the ancient ancestors of modern Inuit. Migratory birds abound in the area, including pure white

ivory gulls, gaudy king eider ducks, low flying northern fulmars, thick-billed murres, kittiwakes, and greater

snow geese (kanguq). Ice conditions permitting, have the opportunity to visit the Bylot Island Migratory Bird

Sanctuary, where over 200,000 birds choose to nest.

DAY 5

RETURN TO POND INLET

Take in your last day in the High Arctic wilderness. Depart camp by private plane and return to the Arctic hamlet

of Pond Inlet in the afternoon. Enjoy dinner and cultural performances by Inuit locals including traditional throat-

singing, drum dancing, and storytelling by elders.

DAY 6

FLY TO OTTAWA

Bid farewell to your trip mates and prepare for warmer climes on your southbound flights to Iqaluit then onward

to Ottawa. Plan to overnight in Ottawa to allow for any possible delays in returning from the Arctic.
