Are Men and Women Different Species? I say thats a MYTH! Men and Women are believed to be different species. Todays media coverage refers to men and women to be separate species. Many Movies such as Think like a Man, or The Ugly Truth show male dominance over women, and illustrating that the two humans are totally different species. Other media sources such as books, magazines, and television shows also perpetuate the myth that Men and Women are different species. Facts state that men and women are the same specie. Yes, we may look different, have differences here and there but when it comes to biological evidence and some psychological evidence, we turn out to be the same organism. Supporting evidence reveals that Men and Women are the same specie by illustrating that both males and females have the same hormones It is said that our hormones are the same. They function the same.. (Fuentes, 2012) The only difference that is made is the variation level of each hormone. Men have higher testosterone than women, and women have higher estrogen than men. These variations allow different cycles to happen in one individual and not the other, such as the menstrual cycle. Everyone knows that Men and Women have different genitals. We have different reproductive organs because we need them for different purposes for the reproduction cycle. What individuals seem to over look is that the two different reproductive organs come from the same embryonic tissue.(users.rcn.com, 2012) It is said that by week six of the development, the embryonic tissue go either way depending on the genetics of the fetus. Both Men and Women have a brain. Men and Womens brains tend to have the same networking. Networking means that they have the same neurons activated, and the same neurological pathways. Men and Women receive stimuli and their reactant times are usually the same, it is just the the reactions toward the stimuli that is the difference between the two genders. Every individual is reacts differently to each stimulus they come across. The reaction toward stimuli is not a determining factor for separating the two species. Facts have shown that men and women dont think the same way, yet I believe that goes hand in hand with people thinking that they are separate species. It has been proven that the difference in mentality of men and women is small. researchers found no large, overall differences between [men and women] mentality.(apa.org). When it comes to wanting to feel safe and secure, or the need to develop a high self esteem, are some similarities both men and women have regarding thinking the same way. Though movies, televisions, and books will keep illustrating that men and women are different species, it is now shown that men and women are more alike than different in majority of ways. I think if people could understand the logic, men and women would be able to understand each other a lot better than they do now.
