under water to varying

degrees due to a storm

surge

• Green – “High ground”

where no flooding is

anticipated

Hospital Disaster Plan

• In the event of a hurricane warning, patients in critical care areas will remain in the hospital

• Approximately 30 Pinellas county residents who are ventilator dependent children will be admitted to the hospital

10

Hospital Disaster Plan

• The Central Energy Plant allows the hospital to run without outside power for up to 21 days -- at full power, not only emergency power.

• A well will provide a potable water supply that is enough to sustain the hospital in case of an emergency impacting the city water supply.

• The windows are rated to withstand winds up to 130 MPH.

12

Hospital Disaster Plan

• The mechanical areas in the hospital are located on the 4th floor, to protect them from any possible flooding.

• Computer systems and applications are housed in 2 separate data centers on the St. Petersburg campus. – Data Center A is located in the Business and

Technology Center (BAT) building. – The Alternate Data Center B is located in the 4th

floor of the main hospital. 13

Laboratory Hurricane Plan

• Policy: Essential laboratory services are maintained before, during, and in the recovery phase of any severe weather event.

14

Laboratory Hurricane Plan

• Policy: A contingency plan exists to move essential laboratory functions to the main hospital building in the event that the Hospital Incident Command Center orders an evacuation of the Outpatient Care Center
