ERSEA... ...Helping Agencies

give all eligible

children a chance to

participate in Head

Start.”

Most agencies understand how important a Head Start experience can be in the lives of our nation’s disadvantaged children and families. Because Head Starts are not able to serve all of the low-income children who meet its eligibility criteria, one of the most important responsibilities programs have is to decide which children are selected to be enrolled and which are not. In order to accomplish this effectively, agencies must understand and implement the requirements set forth by 45 CFR 1305. This Training is designed to address challenges some Head Start programs have such as ensuring the accuracy of their income eligibility documents, developing selection criteria that ensures the selection of the children with the greatest need, developing eligibility procedures that appropriately considers families that lack income documentation, and developing systematic processes that collect and verify income eligibility and homeless families.

Learning by trial and error on the job can help get you by for a while, but to learn optimum methods for monitoring, implementing and managing ERSEA, specialized training is a must. With the constant change in Head Start

regulations, ERSEA workers and their Head Start program must ensure they meet the new reporting and documentation requirements for ERSEA compliance. A specialized credential will help you accomplish just that.

The demand for specialized and skilled ERSEA workers is strong and growing on a daily basis. Unannounced on-site visits are part of 1307 Re-competition standards. Agencies need to be assured that the ERSEA staff can handle unannounced visits, compliance issues as well as design policies and procedures that eliminate findings. By constantly receiving updates on ERSEA compliance, a credentialed professional will play a key role in program compliance. A credential provides an action plan for ERSEA professionals to design, implement and monitor those requirements. A credential through HS University prepares students so that they are specialized in ERSEA systems. The credential program prepares you to:

Enhance ERSEA policies and procedures

Eliminate ERSEA risk factors by establishing methods of addressing ERSEA non-compliance issues

Obtain advanced skills and experience in establishing systemic, integrated ERSEA procedures

Remain up-to-date with changes in ERSEA reporting and documentation requirements

Being a credentialed ERSEA Specialist makes all the difference in Head Start. An ERSEA credentialed professional is...

A person who wants recognition for their professional achievements

A person who wants to unlock new career paths

A person who wants to be ready for federal review and unannounced site visits

A person who can design policies and procedures that eliminates risk factors in ERSEA

A person who seeks excellence in service

A person who is dedicated to quality services in Head Start

What is an ERSEA credential?

An ERSEA credential at HS University is an "educational process" of establishing the qualifications of professionals in Head Start, and the Early Childhood environment. The process consists of the attainment of a specific skill level and knowledge of regulations and the assessment of the candidate's educational background and experience. Upon completion a license is then awarded to the professional who meets the standards set for the credential. The credential signifies that a student has enrolled, attended and successfully completed the requirements within a specific level. The specialist credential process usually takes about 3 to 6 months to complete and requires 15 units.
