Last month I opened with my comments about the success of our first broadcast television commercials. Starting September 12, we will expand our commercial to cable television where they will appear on HGTV and other home-related networks. To our original three spots, we’ve added four more; this time featuring ARG agents whose unscripted comments were so powerful, we decided to air them to the public. Many thanks to ARG Realtors Sandra Melville, Dan Larson, Mike Althof and Nicole Hazelton for their participation.

Jessica Turner joined ARG as our new Marketing Administrator. We met Jessica when she and her husband hired ARG’s Hazelton-Ritto to sell their home. Jessica brings her vast expertise on social marketing and creative writing and is responsible for all ARG marketing outlets including SELECT Magazine and ARGSD.com. She manages the ARG Handsfree mailing programs for our agents which take all the hassle out of creating, mailing and coordinating direct mail marketing programs. Welcome Jessica!

Interest rates, as I write this blog, fell to near all-time lows - that’s the good news. The bad news is FHA loan limits are being lowered in San Diego County to $625,500 from the previous maximum $697,500. Since FHA is the lender of last resort for most borrowers, lowering the maximum will no doubt create chaos in lending arena with few, if any, alternatives for qualified borrowers to seek out. My advice: when you need a home loan, call Sam Assael or Drew Marie Greene at Alliance Direct Home Mortgage. They can be reached at [email protected]

President Obama was asked by Illinois Realtor LuAnn Lavine some pointed questions regarding the housing market. She got up before dawn one day during the president’s bus tour of the midwest. She asked her question, and then politely interrupted the president with a follow-up. She was respectful and got her point across in cordial manner. She represented homeowners and Realtors across the country with great skill and composure. She got her point across that the measures taken so far to keep people in their homes have failed and that no recovery of the economy will take place with the housing market on life-support.

Personal Stuff: I had the privilege in August of having lunch with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, who was in town promoting his new CBS show “Anderson.” Cooper impressed me as an atypical celebrity. He showed up without an entourage, arrived early, stayed late and made a point to get around to everyone and introduce himself. Clearly his mom Gloria Vanderbilt raised him well. His one personal comment to me: “I love your hair!” Did I mention he’s a laugh-riot?

My personal home, downtown San Diego’s iconic Meridian has been undergoing a thorough facelift of its common areas. The new lobby was unveiled to residents’ cheers on August 18 with a reception that included the new plaza-level art gallery. New passenger elevators, new residential corridors, and a re-imagined Meridian room are either now complete or close to it. Meridian’s five guest suites will be redone as well as both fitness centers. The effort took close to five years and was arduous for the volunteer residents who undertook what was at times a thankless job. Their hard work was certainly worth the effort and Meridian is a statement, again.

ARG’s new career site realestatecareersinsandiego.com is off to a great start. If you or your favorite real estate agent are thinking of a career move, check us out! We have agent space available in our downtown location and are looking for 10-20 agents for our new location which will be in the Rancho Bernardo or Santa Luz areas.

America’s Finest City — Fall Outlook

Things to do and see in San DiegoBy Jessica Turner

San Diego is never short on local events, but Fall brings some of the most anticipated events of the year with it. Whether you’re looking to get out of town and fill up on some apples, or embrace your inner German, or if you’re just excited to walk the streets of Kensington while listening to music, and eating street food; San Diego has you covered.

FoodySan Diego Restaurant Week Sept 18th-22nd For $20-$40 you can “experience cuisine that delights your palate and defines the art of dining in San Diego. Held twice annually, this beloved culinary tradition features discounted prix fixe menus from more than 180 of San Diego’s best restaurants.” And this year, in addition to the 3 course dinners, some restaurants are offering 2 course lunches. Bonus!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Adams Avenue Street Fair, and even though each year is better than the last, you can bet that this year is going to blow them all away. San Diego’s largest free musical festival is Sept 24th 10am-9pm & Sept 25th

10am-6pm. In addition to the exciting and diverse music line-up, there will be beer gardens, a micro brew tasting zone, giant carnival rides, and more than 200 food, arts and craft vendors selling their specialties throughout the festival.

We’re so lucky to have a quaint hill-top town like Julian less than an hour away. Even better, they’ve got apples and they know how to use them. Julian Apple Days is a two day Festival that will be held at Menghini Winery featuring apple displays, music & dancing, an antique tractor display, children’s games and activities, gold panning demon-strations, a beer and wine garden, food and merchandise vendors, and of course, apple pie Oct 1st & 2nd from 10am-5pm both days. If you make it out on Sunday, be sure to stay for the Mr. & Mrs. Apple Days coronation at 1pm.

Each fall, Little Italy opens up its arms and we all come running. This year’s Little Italy Festa! is Sunday Oct 9th from 10am-6pm. It’s one of the largest (120,000 attendees last year) Italian American festivals on the West Coast, with the tantalizing sights, sounds and aromas of Italian culture. A full palette of Italian cuisine is comple-mented by traditional and modern Italian music, arts and crafts as well as a tribute to San Diego’s rich Italian American heritage

MilitaryMCAS Miramar, is home of the Third Marine Aircraft Wing, and the largest and best military air show in the nation. The theme for the 2011 MCAS Miramar Air Show, which runs from Sept 30 through Oct. 2, is “A Salute to San Diego: Birthplace of Naval Aviation 1911-2011,” in honor of the centennial of both Naval and Marine Aviation.

Fleet Week San Diego honors and celebrates the men and women of the military through public events that entertain, and alliances that thank and support these heroes. This year’s event is Sept 16th – Oct 2nd and has a long list of events. Visit http://www.fleetweeksandiego.org/events.html for the full list and information on each.

ArtsySan Diego Film Festival is “redefining the film-going experience with a new take on how you watch films. We are a buzz-building, posh-partying, red-carpet-ready film festival. American’s Finest City is our location.” The film fest is held at the Gaslamp Theater, and will open with Will Reisner’s new film “50/50” on Sept 28th. The festival ends Oct 2nd.

The 2011 La Jolla Art & Wine Festival is on Oct 1st and 2nd 10am - 6pm Event admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, military, and senior (65 and above) and free for children 2 and under. The event donates all proceeds to the three area public schools - La Jolla, Torrey Pines, and Bird Rock Elementary - to help underfunded programs such as art, music, science, physical education, technology, and on-site medical care by a school nurse.

THE ARG ABBOTT REALTY GROUP DIFFERENCEWho you hire to represent you in your next real estate transaction is as important as the property you choose. At ARG, we understand the value of great real estate agents. We aren’t concerned about advertising how good we are. Our talented roster of San Diego’s best and brightest Realtors ™ does that for us.

What we are concerned about is YOU. Your family. Your move and the property you purchase or list with us. You won’t find yourself constantly relegated to an agent’s assistant, or worse yet, a big company call center. At ARG our specifically trained agents and managers are available seven days each week to answer your call, to resolve your issue and to relieve you of the stress of the home buying or selling process. And our thoughtful, measured solutions create win-win, synergistic outcomes.

So, when you see ads that seem to boast sales beyond belief, think twice before you turn your complex real estate transaction into a “top-producer’s” next belt notch. They may get the job done, but in their haste did they leave your money on the negotiating table or dig deep enough to find just the right home for you?

When you demand the personal attention to detail that only the best can deliver, call one of the highly skilled Realtors at ARG Abbott Realty Group. You’ll be glad you did.
