ThePantasandTingSutardjaCenterforEnterpreneurship&Technology(SCET)ThePantasandTingSutardjaCenterforEntrepreneurship&TechnologyhoststheA.RichardNewtonDistinguishedInnovatorLectureSeriesandisthepremiereinstitutionontheUCBerkeleycampusforthestudyandpracticeof“technology-centric”entrepreneurshipandinnovation.Since2005,SCEThasbeencentraltoBerkeley’sentrepreneurshipecosystem.SCETisalsoknownfordevelopingtheBerkeleyMethodofEntrepreneurship,aninternationallyrecognizedapproachtoteachingtechnologyentrepreneurshipforundergraduates,innovationforPh.D.students,andtechnologyfirmleadershipforprofessionalsandexecutives.AspartoftheBerkeleyinnovationecosystem,SCETalsocollaboratescloselywiththeJacob’sInstituteforDesign,theHaasBusinessSchool,andCITRISFoundry.IfyouareinterestedinnewVenturesorinnovationontheBerkeleycampusoranywhereintheworld,theSutardjaCenteristheplacetobe.TheCenterislocated(attheStadium)withintheCollegeofEngineeringofUCBerkeleyanditsacademichomeistheDepartmentIndustrialEngineering&OperationsResearch.Formoreinformation,visitourwebsiteatscet.berkeley.edu.ProgramDescriptionThislectureseriesservesasanentrypointforundergraduateandgraduatecurriculumsequencesinentrepreneurshipandinnovation.Theseries,establishedin2005isnamedinhonorofA.RichardNewton,formerDean,UCBerkeleyCollegeofEngineering.Inadditiontohisacademicrole,Newtonplayedanactiveroleinindustry,helpingtofoundanumberofdesigntechnologycompaniesincludingSDASystems(nowCadenceDesignSystems),Synopsys,PIEDesignSystems(nowpartofCadence),SimplexSolutionsandCrossbow.Thecoursefeaturesaselectionofhigh-levelspeakers,fromindustry,academiaandmedia,whosharetheirinsightsonindustrydevelopments,leadershipandinnovationbasedontheircareers.Classesareheldinavarietyoflearningformats,fromlecturetofiresidechattopaneldiscussionand,onoccasionfilm-screening.Ourobjectiveistoexposestudentstomultipleelementskeytoinnovationandentrepreneurshipthroughtheuniqueopportunityofseeingandhearinginsightsandviewpoints,fromdiversespeakers,fromvaryingindustriesandwithdifferentexpertise.
