Career Highlights
Earned his Ph.D in Economics at Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi in 1994. Pursued
post-doctoral level research at Manchester Business School, University of Manchester in 1995. Has
blend of Industry and academic experience of about ten years. Joined IMI Delhi in February 1, 1994.
Worked for American Express Bank, World Bank -New Delhi, ILO and IDRC. Member of the
American Economic Association, Euro-Asia Management Studies Association, Global Awareness
Society International, USA. Taught International finance, Development Economics, Development
Planning and Project Appraisal and Macroeconomics at the Department of Economics, University of
West Indies, Barbados during the period 2001-2005(June) as a visiting Faculty. He holds the
Associated Cement Companies Chair Person in International finance and Business at IMI, Delhi. The
Institute established a research unit entitled, “Prospect of Indian Cement Companies’ Business in the
Neighbouring Countries” with a generous ACC endowment under his leadership.Author of more than
100 scientific articles on international economics, macroeconomics and economic development. His
opinion pieces have been published in leading newspapers including Times of India, The Barbados
Advocate, Business Authority, The Daily Star, Economic Times, Hindu Business Line, Anandabazar
Patrika and Desh. He is the International Advisory Board member of Asian Business and
Management and the member, editorial Board of e-Social Sciences. Authored four books .Has been
a consultant to a number of Indian companies, Government of India and multilateral institutions,
including Associated Cement Companies, Ministry of Rural Development, ILO-SAAT, CIDA, and
UNIDO. Has worked as consultant in St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Bangladesh and
Nepal. Editor of a Management Journal, Global Business Review, published by Sage Publications.
Currently, he is Director , International Management Institute, Kolkata.

25.4 Acted as a supervisor for a group of students of Masters in Project Management at
The Department of Management, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill
Campus, Barbados to pursue a study entitled, Impact and Assessment of Water
Supply Project ( Third loan)-St Lucia sponsored by the Caribbean Development
Bank. The group headed by Dr Banik visited Water Supply projects in St Lucia
from May 19, 2001 to May 26,20 01.
25.3 Supervised fieldwork in 129 districts in India to pursue an evaluation study on
Supply of Improved Toolkits to Rural Artisans during 1999-2000. (Total number
of samples 12,000).
25.2 Undertook a fieldwork in Bangladesh during 1996-97 to collect data on “ Market
Size of Cement in Bangladesh”, sponsored by Associated Cement Companies,
Mumbai.
25.1 Undertook a research study on “ HYV Technology and Relative Productivity of
Small Farms: A Case Study of Bangladesh”, from June 1, 1988 to May 31,1989.
It was designed to extend contemporary research on production behaviour of
farms in two villages of Bangladesh, one, with different types of land elevations (
Sirkerhat, Chittagong) and the other, with assured deep tube well irrigation (
Choto Asulia-Dhaka; Total number of Samples 200)
