DAY 1—PHOENIX Blessed with 360 sunny days a year, Arizona offers flora and fauna at its best. Arrive today, and this evening get to know your fellow travelers at our welcome reception. DAY 2—TALIESIN/DESERT BOTANICAL GARDEN/RUSTLER’S ROOSTE This morning we tour Taliesin West, a UNESCO World Heritage site nestled in the McDowell Mountain desert foothills. Frank Lloyd Wright’s beloved winter home is deeply connected to the desert, and is considered one of the most personal of the architect’s creation. We’ll next visit the private House of Desert Gardens, located at the foot of Camelback Mountain. Demonstrating landscape architecture at its finest, the collection of garden galleries showcase a rich interplay of complementary plant species from arid regions around the world. The Arizona desert is home to thousands of species of cactus, trees and flowers, and one of the best places to experience this awesome variety is at the Desert Botanical Garden. Over 50,000 are displayed here, including hundreds of endangered species. Tonight, we enjoy dinner at Rustler’s Rooste, situated atop a butte of South Mountain. Once a hideout for cattle rustlers, we’ll enter through a mine shaft and saunter over an indoor waterfall. B, L, D DAY 3—BOYCE THOMPSON ARBORETUM/BIOSPHERE 2 First off today is a visit to the Queen Creek Olive Mill, home of Arizona’s only working olive farm and mill. Here we learn first hand how olives are pressed into fresh extra virgin olive oil. Next we head into the desert to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Set against towering Picketpost Mountain, the Arboretum brings together plants from our planet’s many varied deserts and dry lands, displaying them alongside native Sonoran Desert vegetation. Later, one of the world’s most unique facilities dedicated to the research and understanding of global scientific issues hosts us. The Biosphere 2 facility serves as living laboratory where the desert, rainforest, ocean and other ecosystems are monitored and studied. We settle in for the next three evenings at the newly opened Embassy Suites in Tucson—where each room is a deluxe two room suite. of Tucson’s oldest neighborhoods. It’s garden exemplifies what can be done, even in a small space, to harvest water and encourage birds and pollinators. Then, we visit Greg Cormon’s home and studio, featuring wildlife-habitat sculptures and other artistic elements, plus stock tank gardens, mini water features, and a giant crested saguaro. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy some free time at Mercado San Agustin, an open-air courtyard lined with shops and restaurants. With soaring mountains and deep canyons, the unique plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert welcome us this afternoon on a tram ride through Sabino Canyon. We experience desert foothills, rocky gorges, spectacular canyons, and more. Tonight we travel “out west”...well, at least figuratively…to the Tanque Verde Dude Ranch for a down-home ranch BBQ experience. DAY 5—TOHONO CHUL/ARIZONA-SONORA DESERT MUSEUMThis morning, embrace the authentic beauty of the Sonoran Desert at Tohono Chul, set against the spectacular Santa Catalina Mountains. Named “One of the World’s Ten Best Botanical Gardens” by Travel & Leisure, Tohono Chul offers winding paths past soaring Saguaros, themed gardens and encounters with busy hummingbirds. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, ranked as one of the Top 10 Museums in the Country by Trip Advisor, is different than most—85% of the experience is outdoors. Besides plant life, 242 animal species are on display, as is one of the world’s most comprehensive mineral collections…you’ll have ample time to explore. The giant saguaro, our country’s largest cacti, is only found in a small area of the United States. These majestic plants, are a famous symbol of the Southwest and protected by Saguaro National Park. DAY 6—JAPANESE FRIENDSHIP GARDENOn our way home we will stop at the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix, an authentic Japanese Stroll Garden with tea garden and tea house. This tranquil setting features more than 1,500 tons of hand-picked rock, flowing streams, Koi ponds, and several varieties of plants. After, we head to the Phoenix airport and our starting hotel with plenty of memories of gorgeous southern Arizona and its colorful plants, flowers, landscapes and wildlife. B x

Meet Jeff Epping, Olbrich Botanical Gardens

Director of HorticultureJeff Epping has been Director of Horticulture

at Olbrich Botanical Gardens for 25 years. He oversees the horticultural operations and garden designs of over ten inspirational display gardens, show-casing the best plants for south-central Wisconsin. Epping and his staff have practiced and preached sustainable gardening for years, which is reflected in their environmentally friendly cultural practices and innovative award winning garden designs.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Epping holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Ornamental Horticulture. He served as Propagator and Nursery Manager at the Chicago Botanic Garden before joining the staff at Olbrich. Epping regularly lectures and teaches throughout the Midwest on landscape plants and designs for northern gardens. He also writes for regional and national horticultural journals.

Travel Prices: All travel prices are subject to revision in the event of a fluctuation in tariff, currency rates, or other factors beyond our control. In addition, fuel surcharges and departure taxes are subject to revision until time of airline ticketing which is approximately 30 days prior to departure. Cancellation Policy: In the event you need to cancel your reservation, we must receive your cancellation notice in writing, and it will become effective only when received by Country Travel DISCOVERIES (CTD). Refunds will be processed within 15 business days upon receipt of written cancellation. The cancellation fee per person will be determined by the number of days remaining until your tour departure date and are as follows:

45 or more days: $100 44-31 days: $250 30-15 days: 25% of tour price 14-8 days: 50% of tour price 7 days or less: No refund In addition to the cost of the airfare, airline tickets are non-refundable once ticketed. In the event of cancellation by CTD prior to departure, you will receive a full refund of the monies paid, which is processed within 15 business days.

Travelers who require assistance must be accompanied by an able companion who will provide all necessary assistance, and may not be able to participate in all stops. To be fair to all travelers, we reserve the right to decline or remove anyone whose health or behavior impacts the safety, welfare or enjoyment of the group. Please be aware that there are times when a good deal of walking is involved in our tours. Those who have difficulty walking should consult with their doctors before deciding to travel. Due to the nature of our tours, we are unable to accommodate travelers using mobility devices.

You agree to release CTD, its agents, direct and indirect owners and affiliates from all such liability and to look to those who provide services in connection with your tour for recovery of any loss, damage, injury, death, delay or inconvenience. CTD reserves the right to decline or remove any person as a member of a tour and to change the itinerary including accommodations or to withdraw any or all tours or portions thereof. If this is necessary, we will resume the scheduled itinerary as soon as possible. If any tour must be withdrawn by CTD prior to tour departure, liability is limited to a refund of money received by us. Fly My Group, Bozeman, MT and TayMac Tour, Bedford, No-va Scotia are responsible for certain arrangements on tours. Interpretation and Disputes: These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Wisconsin, without regard to any conflict of laws and/or provisions. All disputes or causes of action shall be brought exclusively in Waukesha County, Wisconsin with respect to any dispute arising under these Terms, unless otherwise specifically agreed by CTD in its sole discretion. In the event of any dispute, the prevailing party shall be entitled to recovery of its reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs. If any provision of these Terms is deemed unenforceable or invalid by a court or arbitrator, then the court or arbitrator shall modify such provision to the minimum extent necessary to make such provision enforceable and valid. Should such modifica-tion prove impossible or impracticable, then the provi-sion shall be severed and the remaining terms of these Terms shall be interpreted and read to give them maximum enforceabil-ity. Any cause of action or claim must be commenced within one (1) year after the action or claim arises.

Entire Agreement: These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and CTD with respect to your travel, your reservation and your request for a reserva-tion. These Terms supersede all prior or contemporane-ous understandings or agreements, written or oral, re-garding such subject matter. Any waiver of any provision of these Terms will be effective only if in writing and signed by CTD. These Terms will inure to the benefit of CTD’s successors and assigns. CTD reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice to clients.
