• Arizona’s legislature passed and governor signed SB1070 into law in April of 2010.

• Made the state ground zero in US immigration enforcement.

• Contains a controversial provision allowing law enforcement to question anyone’s immigration status when stopped for a possible state violation.

• In July of 2010 the US District Court sided mostly with federal law that preempts SB 1070 striking down the need to show immigration status.

• On November 1, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit heard an appeal f the judge’s injunction. It’s predicted to end up before the Supreme Court.

• 23 Other states have been inspired to enact similar legislation , but others are awaiting the outcome of the lawsuit before introducing their own.

• Illegal immigration frustration is not limited to just the United States.

• Italy’s government has cracked down on illegal immigration since Berlusconi came to power in 2008.

• Milan began targeting immigrants on public busses and trams demanding proof of legal status.• Ethnic rioting resulted from a gang murder. The deputy mayor told

the media they’s be notifying those that could be deported.

• In 2009 the Tuscan city of Lucca banned new ethnic food outlets in the city center. The City of Florence followed suit in 2010.
