HISTORY.
The Arizona Territorial Norina I School \vas established at Te1npe by an Act of the Thirteenth Legislature, atnended and re-enacted
March 10, 1887.
The objects of the school were declared by the said Act to be the instruction of persons, both n1ale anrl female, in the art of teaching, and in all the various branches that pertain to a good con1n1on
school education; also, to give instruction in the mechanical arts
and in husbandry and agricultural chemistry, in the fundamental
law of the United States, and in "'hat regards the rights and duties
of citizenship.
The school has been in active operation for four years, during
which time there have attended the institution seventy-nine
students: and eleven have been graduated, eight of whom have
taught in the public schools of the Territory sinc,-e graduation.

LOCATION.
The Te1ritoriat ~ormal Rchool is located at Te1npe, Mari<'oJ>a County, on the line of the Marieopa and Phrenix railroad.
Its situation is in a health~ l&ality and in the 1nidst of a far111ing
C"ommunity characterized by industry., th.rift, good morals and good order.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION.

The entrance to the hall at· each end is by double doors; and

GRADUATION
In order to graduate, the student n1ust be at least ('!ighteen years
of age, iuust have attended the school for a period af at least
twent.y-two \\'eeks, and n11rst pnss a written exn1ui1iatio1i in all 'the
studies of the course.
If it appears fron1 the resulting papers an<l the record of dai.ly
recitations and deportment that the applicants for graduafion
possess· the learning ·and other quRlifications necessary to t~acli a
good connnon school, said persons ~hall' receive _certificates- of
gradnl1-tion, 'vhich ·will entitle the holders ttl tench a gl-a.u~innt
school in any county in the Territory of Arizona.
