Arlo James young dumb and broke

In September 2014 Arlo James celebrated his 14th birthday, having just unwrapped a DJ Decks his father gave him. His father, was an avid music lov-er and had received this gift through the radio station that he worked at. He spent many hours, teaching Arlo the basics of creat-ing music but little did he know this would be the makings of something great.

Arlo then started producing his own hip-hop and rap beats using free samples he found online and by the time he was 16 he had created thousands of tracks all uploaded to a free music sharing website called Sound-cloud. Testing out phat 808’s, dutty basslines and harmonic melodies. He said at the time, “it was just one after another”, as though he could not stop his creative vibes from flowing.

After years of creating the tracks, realising himself that he had talent and a passion for the music he was creating, one day unbeknownst to him, a talent scout for Storming Entertainment came across Arlo’s page. At the time with the alias of DJ Satchmo, the talent scout spotted Arlo’s tal-ent, and decided to offer him a place at the record company and to release his debut single album ‘Burn Holes and Bad Behaviour’.

Fast forward a couple months and Arlo’s album reached platinum status, having sold a million units worldwide. This overnight success made him a worldwide sensation, and all from the comfort of his own bedroom. Later that year his popularity skyrocketed even more when he sold out on his 8 month worldwide tour, booking fes-tivals such as Reading and Leeds, and selling out the O2 arena 5 times!

However, it seems as though not everything has turned out the way he had hoped and dreamed for, as his parents split. He admitted during a recent press conference, that he was, ‘the sort of glue holding us all together. But as I became more independent, it was clear the cracks in my parent’s marriage could no longer be painted over.
