SeptemberJacob Lawrence enjoyed painting the American scene. My favorite American scene is Washington D.C. I like it there because I can see the Capital Building. I can also go to the Smithsonian Institution. My favorite museums are the American History Museum and the Air and Space Museum. That is what I like about Washington D.C.

Make A Difference Day I thought the Make A Difference Day project we did was fun, helpful and interesting. When the kids hear one of our stories, they will enjoy the books because of our large selection. If I was in the hospital, I would enjoy the library of tapes because they are full of feeling.

“Mom, I just can’t share my bike with Lee!”. Charles always bugged his mother about the bike she got him. He had to share it with his one year younger brother Lee. They argued about everything , even about who sits where. One day, Charles snuck out to ride the bike.Charles rarely had time to to ride because his teacher gave him tons of homework. By the time he got to the bike he had to ride on the basket rack with Lee. Now he had the bike all to himself. He got on the comfy seat and rode down the curvy street. It was like an electric eel.

He turned a corner where it was not paved and Charles bounced up and down on the padded seat. Around the bend ,he met a new kid. He had just moved from Seattle to Galloway. He was waving his hand frantically at Charles. Soon they came nearer to each other and the boy happily said,”Hi my name is Tom ,what is yours?”

“I’m Charles,” he answered , “Do you want to come biking with me?”

“Okay,” he said and ran to get his bike. Soon they were off, riding along the rocky road. Charles and Tom talked about themselves.

Soon the boys reached the park. They drank from the water fountain and went to the slides to slide down. Then they played hide and go seek. When they got tired of playing ,they hopped on their bikes and rode around the park many times. It was fun to be free. Finally , Tom said in a worried tone, “ I don’t remember the way home!”

Charles directed Tom home, said goodbye and gave him directions to his house.

When Charles got home, he said in a tired voice ,”What a day!” He told his family that night about his new friend,Tom and about their bicycle ride. Charles told Lee,”You should meet Tom, he might be interesting to you.

Charles was happy with his new friend and thought about the next time he would go riding with him.

Made in the USA

Wool on cake? You bet! That’s what “Made in the USA” is about. We get to cut out the shape of our states, then decorate them with the funniest foods. Then the cool part comes in; putting the cakes together. What comes out of this project is a great looking giant cake of the USA. Mmmmmm… !
