“I too believed that India will awake again if anyone could love with all his heart the
people of the country – bereft of the grace of affluence, of blasted fortune, their
discretion totally lost, downtrodden, ever-starved, quarrelsome and envious. Then
only will India awake, when hundreds of large-hearted men and women, giving up all
desires of enjoying the luxuries of life, will long and exert themselves to their utmost,
for the well-being of the millions of their countrymen.”
~ Swami Vivekananda
ANNUAL REPORT 2008 - 09 | Page 3
The great patriotic saint and cyclonic monk has given the alchemy of awakening of Bharat Mata to its
pristine glory of Jagatguru, and it is very pertinent and concise. Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas
Arunachal Pradesh Trust is running 24 Vidyalayas to materialize the vision of Swami Vivekananda. “Serve
Man Serve God” and “Man making and nation building” are the twin ideals we are working for. The
inspiration and aspiration we got from Mananeeya Eknanathji Ranade, the founder President of Vivekananda
Kendra had been distilled into the moolmantra: Know Bharat, love Bharat, Be Bharateeya and make
Bharatmata Jagatguru. Vast is our nation Bharat and gigantic is the task we are pledged to accomplish. We
have taken-up the challenge and Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas in Arunachal Pradesh are slogging to
meet the challenge. Academic excellence, congenial atmosphere and self-discipline are the areas, we, at
the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya are striving to improve upon. There are attainments, achievements
and of course scores of success stories. The goal and the way are set. The alchemy of Swami Vivekananda
is working wonderfully. Our schools are becoming Shakti Peeth, drawing energy from the community
and empowering the various elements of community. The faith of the people and succor we get from
them have taken us from strength to strength to face the new challenges.

Dr. Sridhar Bhaskar Varnekar Award
Writing is one of the convoluted but indispensable of skills
involved in language learning. Many of our teachers and
students have a good panache and aptitude for writing. It
is very much evident when we see the wonderful wall
papers put up in the schools. To encourage the budding
writers, poets and cartoonists an award is given
every year. The school, which contributes maximum
number of articles for Arohi, gets Sri Sridhar Bhaskar
Varnekar Trophy. This year Vivekananda Kendra

Agriculture – Sowing, Growing, Reaping and Enjoying
Most of VKVs have quite large farm lands. Hard slog by students and staff in spite of inclement weather is
the input and bumper harvest of paddy, vegetables, fruits, fish and poultry is there to relish on. It is also
a step towards self dependency. This year, Rupees 124552/- was the net income from the agriculture.
VKV Balijan is still maintaining its position for consecutive third year at the top slot with net income of
Rupees 83684/-.
Sponsor a Child Scheme
I see the marks of God in the heaven and the earth, but how much more in a liberal intellect, in
magnanimity, in unconquerable rectitude...I thank God that my own lot is bound up with that of the
human race. Thanks to many donors from India and abroad this year we could take care of 350
students by paying their fees from the sponsorship fund received to the tune of Rupees 1222885/.
244 boys and 106 girls, the needy students studying in VKVs are the beneficiaries.
Aptitude Test and Career Counseling
This year there was substantial increase in the number of students those opted for Aptitude Test and
Career Counseling. The counseling was done at VKV Tinsukia, Jairampur, Sunpura, Tafrogam, Roing and
Itanagar. 384 students from 20 different schools from Arunachal and Asom could avail the facility. The
response from parents and students is quite positive and encouraging.
Snehvardhini
“Coming together and serving with love can do wonders”. Snehavardhini is the best paradigm of it. A
unique programme being implemented in VKV Oyan and Roing for three years. The sisters (family members
of teaching and non teaching staff) come together and carry out service activities in consonance with
Kendra ideology.
Dr. Pratibha Tai Athwale

Dr. Pratibha Tai Athwale, a devoted and
committed Dental Surgeon visited VKVs

The helpless, downtrodden, the sarvahara won’t go in
search of education because it is not their priority. That
is the reason the masses remained illiterate for long. Illiteracy,
superstition, poverty and backwardness form a vicious circle.
Shall we remain grumbling over the fate ? No and never. Then
how to break the callous circle ? Education… Educating the
masses is the only way out. And for that expansion is must.
We have to go to hills and valleys, remote places and far flung
villages. Our Mentor has illustrated the goal and the way.
Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas in Arunachal Pradesh though
ever-increasing in number and every single Vidyalaya is
expanding with assorted man making activities we are yet to
reach the last segment. Some may come and invite us but
there are some waiting for us. They may not have even means
to access us. So, VKV must reach them with open arms. It is
a Challenge. And it is a challenge worth taking. The day the
forgotten lot is educated en mass, the world is bound to
behold Bharat Mata as Jagatguru.
We are confident that our well wishers, staff, students, parents
and alumni go in with us shoulder to shoulder and then we march
together from strength to strength for the welfare of all.

Vishwas Lapalkar
Secretary
If the poor cannot come to education, education must reach them at the
plough, in the factory, everywhere. They are to be given ideas; their eyes tobe opened to what is going on in the world around them, and then they willwork out their own salvation.
~ Swami Vivekananda
