WEEKLY MEETINGS

Meditation in various forms have been advocated and there can't be a more simpler method to realise Self, God, and Peace of Mind... We had a discussion on this and more in our weekly meeting on the 1st of April at The Presidential Lounge, Century Club Prabhakar Ravoori the speaker for the evening spoke on the subject of Sahaj Marg, a form of meditation.

According to him, "Sahaj Marg, the ‘Natural Path’, is a simple practice of meditation on the heart. Derived from the ancient Indian system of raja yoga, Sahaj Marg is taught worldwide. If practiced sincerely, it rapidly brings about a balance between material and spiritual life. The true aim of this highly effective training in spirituality is to take the seeker to the highest goal of human existence – God realization or Self realization.

The essential features of Sahaj Marg system are Meditation, Cleaning and Prayer. The "cleaning" of impressions (called samskaras) is claimed to be unique to this method. Meditation is on the "mere supposition of divine light" in one's heart and it is done for 30 – 60 minutes every morning. Cleaning, done to remove the accumulated grossness in oneself,is undertaken in the evening after the day's work is over and lasts for 30 mins. The bed time prayer is 10 mins. The speaker introduced us to each of these and had a very interesting Q/A session.

The law and the practice of law are rife with humour. And we all can use humour to break the tensions, to create rapport and simply to maintain our sanity. Sometimes humour sets in with out any body’s knowledge and sometimes it happens if the advocate has a sense of humour. The courtroom seriousness is thrown out of gear by humour and this is what Rtn K N Chandrashekar, a past President with Rotary Club of South West shared with us on the 8th of April in our weekly meeting held at Century Club.

He narrated his own experiences in his practice of Law which has extended to a few decades till date. According to him most of these incidents happen in a rural background involving innocent people. The court that witnesses these incidents are lower courts and never High Court or Supreme Court.

He also gave an insight into the Human Rights, Ethical Behaviour of an Advocate, Differences between the types disputes

This was a joint meet with Rotary Club of City Center.

HUMOUR IN LAW

In the last Club Assembly held at Century Club on the 22nd of April, Rotary Bangalore Peenya’s Board of Directors and the Chairpersons along with the members took a brief tour of the activities of the club over the past months while also planning a few important issues for the coming year.

As the Light Up team prepared itself for a smooth transition to those Rotarians who are going to be The GIFT TO THE WORLD, it was extremely important to address the concerns of the Club Members on a few issues with the permitted guidelines and Principles of Rotary International.

GRAND STAND, TO CELEBRATE THE MAGAZINE MONTH

HAPPENINGS & EVENTS

A Rotary Club’s News Letter is an important integral part of the Club’s public image. It essentially tells the story of the Club’s activities to the Rotary District, other clubs in the district, to the community we live in and to the new members. Just as we do things for humanity, the magazine spreads the words of our deeds to all around us. Occasionally, the news letter creates awareness of our club & Rotary International.

Colourful magazines year after year delightfully convey all the activities of the club under all the avenues of service.

ARPANA of Rotary Bangalore Peenya is one such example to show how beautifully it has evolved over the years ever since the first issue was published in 1983 under the dynamic leadership of Charter President Rtn M S Mallappa, and with the new capable potential members on the board for the future years, it will only become better and more efficient in it’s role.

The highlight of the evening was a talk on ‘The evolution of Rotary News in India’ by Past Rotary International Director Rtn Panduranga Shetty. He recollected his efforts in bringing out the first 12 editions of Rotary News with PDG Rtn Madhura and PDG Rtn Srikanth managing the Rotary News editorial and publication with much ease and aplomb.

In a fitting tribute to the Editors of all the Clubs, Rotary Club of Down Town & Rotary Club of Bangalore had organized ‘The Grand Stand’ where the Bulletins of 22 Rotary Clubs were on Display apart from Rotary News, Rotarian and even our GML, on the 13th of April 2015, at The Rotary House of Friendship on Lavelle Road. The idea to put the Magazines on the Grand Stand coincided with April being ‘The Magazine Month’ in a Rotary Year. The Presidents of both the Clubs recognized the contribution by giving appreciation certificates to The Presidents and The Editors of all these 22 clubs.
