IMCC Newsletter 28 Friday, 8 th September 2017 Art Camp On Wednesday, 30 th August to Friday, 1 st September our ATAR Visual Arts classes, along with the Year 10 Specialist Art students, spent three days extending their skills and creating numerous works as part of our annual Art Camp. The camp was held at Point Walter and began with students setting up their own studio area in the main hall. Each day had a different focus and sought to grow their ability in different painting and drawing mediums, in addition to developing ideas for their final studio work. Year 12 students worked across sculpture, painting and drawing to complete works that focussed on their interpretation of ‘consumed’, with the majority of students working late into the night. Year 11 students looked to artists for inspiration and developed a range of media tests to inspire their final work based on ‘identity’. Meanwhile the Year 10 students learnt about portraiture through participating in several workshops. The work produced on this camp was of a high level and a culmination of what would normally be achieved in a few weeks of class time. Some of the works from camp will be on display at the Creations Exhibition, which opens on Tuesday, 12 th September at 6.00pm in the Paul Rafter Centre. Confirmation Retreat On Tuesday, 5th September, nine students from Years 7-12 attended a Confirmation Retreat at Bramston Park, Burns Beach. The Retreat was run by 24:7 School Ministry, who run engaging retreat and reflection days for students in Years 7-8, with a focus on the objectives of the Religious Education program taught within West Australian schools. 24:7 School Ministry has been rapidly expanding since it started in 2011, and has ministered to thousands of students in this time. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day, and their Sacramental knowledge was extended through the inspiring youth ministry leaders from 24:7.

Catholic Performing Arts Festival Term 3 has been a busy time for all involved in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. Students from dance, drama and music represented the College at many different locations and events across Perth to an extremely high standard. It was wonderful to see the talent not only from our experienced senior students, but from all involved, including some students who were performing on stage for the very first time. The progress that has been made over the years continues to impress me and I am very proud of all the hard work these students put into their area of expertise. Special thanks to the Performing Arts staff, Ms Brankstone, Ms Christie, Miss Harte and Mrs Richardson, for the extensive work they put into the Festival all year long. This year the categories for Awards changed to Outstanding Award, Excellence Award and Merit Award. Congratulations to the following students and groups who achieved Awards during the Festival:

Thank you again to all those involved, and to family and friends who supported the events throughout the Festival. Miss Kylie Malam Head of Performing Arts

Soccer Academy Report The Junior Girls Soccer Team played in the Southern Suburbs Shield semi-final against Lynwood Senior High School on Tuesday, 5th September. Lynwood SHS are a soccer academy school with a long tradition of success across all age groups. Our girls got off to a great start when shortly after Lynwood kicked off, we won the ball in their defence, passed it through several players up the field, to score in the first minute of the game. We held the lead for only seven minutes as Lynwood hit back quickly to level at 1-1. Halfway through the first half, the girls again had a great build up and Nyandeng Dau scored from the edge of the box with a powerful shot to give us the lead 2-1. This time the lead only lasted 6 minutes as Lynwood equalised again and at half time, it was locked at 2-2. The second half was a real battle and physical affair, with players from both teams throwing themselves into the game to try to get the advantage. The game went from end to end and both teams had numerous challenges. With 10 minutes to go, Lynwood scored from a free kick to take the lead for the first time in the game. Our girls pushed forward and worked hard for the win but with a minute to go, Lynwood finished the game off with a goal to win 4-2. Congratulations to the Junior Girls Soccer Team on their amazing season. They made it to the last eight of the state in a very strong competition and their last 2 games resulted in two narrow losses. The Junior Girls have progressed further than any other team in the College this year and they should be very proud of their achievement. Well done to the Junior Girls. Mr Damian Stefanoff Soccer Academy Coordinator
