What is Art Therapy? • Art Therapy offers a chance to experiment with art materials

in a creative and spontaneous way. The artwork can then be used as a way of making sense of what is happening in your life.

• The therapist will not teach art but will support you in using materials in your own way and at your own pace.

• It can be a long term or time limited treatment.

Who provides Art Therapy?

• The Arts Therapy Department at Rampton offers Art and Music therapy to patients across the hospital.

• Art therapy is exclusively provided by qualified Art therapists. All Art therapists employed in the NHS are state registered (Health Professions Council) and are also members of BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists).

How might Art Therapy help me? • Art therapy offers you the chance to think about and make

changes in your life and relationships. • It gives you the opportunity to recognise and share difficult

feelings in a safe space. What will be expected of me?

• In order for you to feel at ease with the process and for gradual development to occur it is usual practice to meet with your therapist on a weekly basis.

• Together we will consider whether group or individual work would be more suitable.

• You will be offered some initial sessions so you can decide whether Art therapy is helpful and if you wish to continue.
