On Dec. 1, we submitted the Appleton Museum’s 105-page self-study questionnaire with47 attachments to the American Association of Museums office in Washington, D.C., as part of the accreditation process. I’d like to express my sincere appreciation to the Appleton staff for their valuable contribution in this important step to get the “Good Housekeeping stamp of approval.” It is important that we make it known to our community that we take our responsibilities seriously in caring for this exceptional gift from Arthur I. Appleton and that we operate it in the most professional manner.

The year 2012 is the Appleton’s 25th anniversary, which will bring an array of very exciting exhibitions and programs to the museum. On Jan. 28, we will — as I hope you already know — celebrate with what promises to be a very special and memorable La Bella Epoque gala dinner at the museum. I sincerely hope that you, our members and supporters, will join us and help us celebrate with a great deal of gusto. A committee has been working hard the last few months arranging all of the details, and I wish to thank and recognize each of them: Charles Koch, Trinette Collmer, Dr. Sharon Cooper, Roberta English, David Gadlage, Susan Klein, Marion Montanari, Susan Peters, Ann Spang and Barbara Trow. Seating at the gala will be limited, so RSVP quickly if you want to be part of this special event. Just imagine, the Appleton Museum of Art has been part of the fabric of our community since 1987! I want to thank all of you who have supported us with your memberships and enthusiastic embrace of our exhibitions and programs. Your efforts have established our museum as one of the major cultural attractions in Florida.

As always, we love to see you here frequently at the Appleton. Remember, this is your museum.

Appleton Construction Projects

CAFÉ EXPANSION

The Appleton Café is currently under construction to expand the facility by an additional 780 square feet. The expansion will double the café’s seating capacity to 150 guests for indoor receptions, ceremonies, corporate events and museum programs. To expand the room, 13 pieces of tempered glass — each piece is 7 feet by 6 inches wide and 8 feet by 6 inches high and weighs 450 pounds — will be installed between the columns in the north end of the courtyard and a set of glass doors will be added at each end of the corridor. Work is being done by Slack Construction of Ocala and scheduled for completion by mid-March.

GALLERY WALLS

After the Katharine Hepburn exhibition ends Jan. 22, the two walls in the center of the Edith Marie Gallery will be removed in time for the Appleton’s 25th Anniversary Gala on Jan. 28. Without the two center walls, guests at the gala will enjoy an unobstructed view of all the activities in that room during the evening. Immediately after the gala, the walls will be reinstalled for the opening of Three From Cuba on Feb. 11.

Museum ShopCome celebrate the Appleton’s 25th anniversary year with a visit to the Museum Shop and browse through our selection of specialty gifts and sale items.
