Event Description Join the Fenimore Art Museum, the showcase of the New York State Historical Association, in our annual celebration of the relationship between artists and the landscape. Offering one of the most spectacular views of Otsego Lake, the museum’s back lawn is an ideal spot to experience landscape art in a beautiful landscape. This one-

day, juried open-air art festival will feature

outstanding artists, demonstrations, children's art activities, live music, and local food and beverages. Artists are invited to apply to our jury for a spot at one of the premier art events in the region. Art by the Lake takes place on August 9,

2014.

Deadlines and Notifications Applications must be postmarked by May 3, 2014. Artists will be notified of their acceptance by May 24, at which point they will receive detailed event information and an artist’s contract. Accepted artists must return a signed artist’s contract by June 14 to guarantee a spot.

Eligibility Requirements All work must be original, made by individual artists, and executed by hand or with the use of appropriate tools. Artists may sell reproductions and prints of their own original work to the public the day of the show, but these reproductions should be clearly labeled as such. Artists must be on hand to sell their own work, and demonstration at the event is highly encouraged. Please note on the application form any special

requirements needed for demonstration (e.g., electricity, running water).

Image Submission Standards Artists should send three images of their artwork to be considered by our selection panel. Artists new to the show should also send an image of their typical booth set up if possible. Images may be sent by

e-mail ([email protected]) or non-returnable CD as standard compressed maximum quality JPEGs.

Each image should be labeled with the artist’s name and a number that corresponds with the description provided on the application form. If images are submitted on a CD, the CD should be labeled with the artist’s full name and the media category/categories for which the images are to be juried. Please make sure that the CD has been finalized.

Images of accepted exhibitors may be retained for publicity purposes. The Fenimore Art Museum reserves the right to reproduce images of the work of accepted artists for publicity purposes.

Awards Judging for awards will take place the day of the festival. Winners will receive prizes at our awards ceremony. Judges will review one piece of artwork chosenby each artist in their media category, but theymay consider all of the artwork in each artist’s booth. Artists may display works in more than one media category, but must select one showcase piece for judging. Artists should display their selected pieces in a prominent location at their booths. The selected piece must be labeled with the artist’s name, title of the work, and media category. The selected work does NOT need to be among the three images previously submitted with the application.

Judges’ decisions will be based on: 1. Creativity 2. Interpretation of color 3. Relationship to landscape theme Showcase pieces may be for sale at the event, but should remain on display until the end of the day.
