Arthur RoweARTISTIC DIRECTOR
2019/2020
1
Welcome to the 32nd season of the Jeffery Concerts,
made possible by a generous gift of the late Gordon
Jeffery. Gordon was a devoted and enthusiastic
promoter of classical music in
London, and we are proud to
continue his legacy with this
outstanding concert series.
The new season combines some
beloved old friends with some
new faces. We welcome back the
Gryphon Trio to begin the season, followed by the
Penderecki String Quartet with Arthur Rowe, and
later in the season the St. Lawrence String Quartet.
You will also hear in “Boccheriniana” a group of five
Canadian and European musicians featuring work of
Boccherini. An exciting first for this concert series will
be the TorQ Percussion Quartet (mallet instruments
and drums). Also new to us will be the internationally
acclaimed Quatuor Danel, accompanied by noted
French pianist Lise de la Salle.
We have not forgotten that 2020 is the 250th
anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven.
To celebrate, we have two very special concerts. In
November 2019 pianist Minsoo Sohn, First Laureate
of the Honens International Piano Competition
(2006), will perform a program of Beethoven piano
sonatas. In March 2020, violinist Jonathan Crow and
pianist Arthur Rowe will present, in a two-concert
weekend, the complete (all 10) Beethoven violin
sonatas — a rare event!
Please join us for this exciting and innovative
season of chamber music.jefferyconcerts.com
