Fiona’s passion for stained glass was first kindled at the GlasgowSchoolofArt,whilestudyingintheEnvironmentalArtDepartment.Workingwith pure colour continues to be both a pleasure and aprivilege but one that Fiona is always keen to share.Many of hercommissionshaveinvolvedanelementofcommunityinclusionandteaching.ArtistresidenciesfirstbroughtFionatotheNorthernIsles,aplacenowdear toherandher family. Its landscapehas inspired
much of her design work. Her commissions have included windows for Gloucesterand Motherwell Cathedrals, Rolls Royce and numerous Schools projects throughoutScotland.SheisarecentwinnerofthePearson’sPrize,anindustryawardfor‘thebestuseofstainedglass.’
LeadhillsLeadhills is locatedhigh in thebeautiful LowtherHills andwas foundedon leadmining.ItisScotland’ssecondhighestvillage(afternearbyWanlockhead)lyingataheightof395mor1295ft.Leadmininggavethevillageitsname-anditsprosperity- but gold has also been found nearby. Leadhills is a geologist’s delight! Overseventydifferentmineralscanbefoundinthesurroundingarea.
This historic village has a number of attractions linked to its heritage including:LeadhillsMinersLibrary,theoldestsubscriptionslibraryintheUK,foundedin1741;theLeadhillsandWanlockheadRailway,built in1900totransportrefinedleadtothecentralbeltofScotland,asBritain’shighestadhesionrailway itnowoperatesbetweenLeadhills toWanlockhead; theScotsMiningHousebuilt in1734 for thecompanymanager,itisbelievedtobetheonlysurvivingsmallhousedesignedbyWilliamAdam.WhynotstopoveratthevillagehoteltheHopetounArmstorelaxandenjoyaglassofwineoracupofcoffeeinfrontoftheopenfire.

ChatelheraultChatelherault was built in 1732 as thehuntinglodgeandsummerhouseforthewealthyDukeofHamilton. Designedbythe famous Scottish Architect WilliamAdam, Chatelherault now serves as themagnificentgatewaytotheCountryPark.
The restored buildings is now a visitorcentrewithdisplaygalleryandexhibitionsonthearea’shistory,wildlifeandthestoryofChatelheraultitself.Thehousealsohasa largegiftshop,caféandreceptionareaaswellasmeetingroomsandconference/weddingspace.
Visitors can view the Duke’s privateBanquetingRoom,apartmentsandformalgardens. Outside, visitors can ramblethrough10milesofstunninggorgewalksalongtheRiverAvonandthroughancientwoodland,someofwhichistheoldestinthecountry.

Tinto HillTintoHillor‘HillofFire’,thegracefulconeshaped hill on Lanarkshire’s southernhorizon. At 707metres it is one of thelargestandmostprominentlandmarkintheupperreachesoftheClydeValley.
At the summit thereareexcellentviewsas far as the Lake District to the south,the mountains of Mourne in NorthernIreland,AilsaCraigandArranintheFirthof Clyde and north to Lochnagar in theCairngorms.At the summit is Scotland’slargestcairn,datingfromtheBronzeAge,somesay this iswhere thename‘HillofFire’ is derived from, others credit thelegend that the hill was an importnantDruidicceremonialsitewherefireswerelitforthesungodBaal.
Feufield Enjoy a visit to Feufield, an ethical andtotallyfreerangesmallholdingsetintheidyllicsurroundingsoftheTintoHillsandBiggar. DalserfThecharminghamletofDalserfwasoneofthemajorvillagesoftheareapriortothe Industrial Revolution - in 1775 thepopulationwas1100.
The interesting crucifix shape churchwasbuilt in1655,duringtheearlydaysofPresbyterianism,onthesiteofanoldchapel.
The village had linkswith Covenanters,andbehindthechurchisamonumenttotheRev.JohnMcMillan(d.1753).
His religious stand led to Covenanterssometimes being referred to as‘McMillanites’.

‘Through the Square Window’
‘Through the Square Window’ is a jointexhibition featuring Andrew FoleyIllustrator and Fiona Foley Stained GlassArtist.“ForovertenyearsnowIhavetravelledtoShetland to rekindleanenduring loveoftheNorthernIsles.In1993myselfandAndyundertook a joint exhibition called ‘SideLongLook’.Thepiecesforthatshowwereall inspiredby tinyglimpsesof Shetland,in memories, captured through thedriver’s sidewindowofourweePeugeot106.Wefollowedthiswithaprojectcalled‘Migration’ where we placed especiallycreatedstainedglasspanelsinabandonedbuildings throughout Shetland. Eachpiece was truly site-specific, inspired bythelifestoryofthebuildingandcreated,inpart,by thecurrent inhabitantsof thearea.‘Through the Square Window’ bringstogetherimagesfromboththeseprojectsinanewsetting,closertohome.”

‘TV Eye’
‘TV Eye’ is a collection of illustrations byAndrewFoley,originallycommissionedforthe Scotland on Sunday’s television andradioreviewpage.
“At the turn of the millennium, over aperiod of about two years, I was taskedwithproducingtwoweeklyillustrationstoaccompany theweekendTVsupplement,reviewing the best and worst for eyesand ears in the coming week. The rapidresponse and quick turnaround requiredforthisjobleftlittletimeforoverconsideredartworkbutitresultedinalivelycollectionof images. Taken out of this context theillustrationscanappearalittlemysteriousbutnonethelessenjoyableintheirstrangejuxtapositions.
The appearance of the occasionalfamiliar face coincidedwith an emerginginterest in caricature. One of the chiefobjectives was to capture a variety oftelevision personalities in all their glory.The exhibition is a selection of originalartwork from this particular period anda small number of new illustrations tocomplimentthisretrospectivecollection.
