WHO CAN APPLYArtward Bound provides artistic, academic, and life skills

bound students who live and go to school in Boston.

You may apply if:

you are currently in 8th or 9th grade and will be in 9th or 10th

you currently attend a Boston district, pilot, exam, parochial

or charter school.

you live in Boston.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONSPlease complete the following forms. Do not leave any questions

Parent/Guardian Release of Information. Please ask your

guidance counselor or principal for a copy of your complete

middle school transcript/report card that lists your past and

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTSTwo Letters of Recommendation: One letter must be from

a teacher who knows your work as a student. The other can

be from a teacher or someone from your community like an

athletic coach, pastor/minister, or youth organization leader

or instructor. Please give each recommender the attached

Letter of Recommendation Form that includes instructions

for the letter. (p. 7 & 9)

ABOUT ARTWARD BOUND

students who live and go to school in Boston. Artward Bound helps prepare 8th – 12th grade students interested in the visual

arts with the artistic and academic skills needed for admission to and success at an art/design college or other post-­secondary

school. Artward Bound is currently accepting applications from rising 9th and 10 graders.

Students in Artward Bound begin with a six-­week summer session that includes intensive art and academic programs based on the

campus of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt). Students will participate in MassArt’s summer youth programs,

academic support programs, and additional community art projects. During the school year, students participate in art classes and

other activities including visits to museums and studios, academic tutoring, and life skills workshops. Students enrolling in the

ARTWARD BOUND AGREEMENT OF PARTICIPATION Students who are accepted and decide to participate in Artward Bound and their parents or guardians will each be required to

sign an Agreement of Participation specifying terms of participation as follows:

Parent/Guardian must agree to:

work with their child to obtain and maintain a B average or

better in school;;

enforce all rules and regulations of Artward Bound as they

pertain to their child;;

ensure that their child attends all Artward Bound sessions

including:

-­ orientation

-­ six-­week summer session

-­ twice a week academic year classes and tutoring

-­ academic year classes and tutoring

-­ other special activities as scheduled

ensure that their child will not be involved with illegal drugs

or alcohol. Use of illegal drugs or alcohol will result in the

student’s immediate dismissal from the program;;

notify Artward Bound staff if their child is absent or will not

be participating in a trip or other planned activity;;

answer all inquiries from Artward Bound staff regarding their

child;;

attend required Artward Bound parent/guardian meetings.

Students must agree to:

work to obtain and maintain a B average or better in school;;

respect teachers, tutors, other Artward Bound staff, and fellow

students;;

not disturb classes and hand in all assignments;;

attend the six-­week summer session and obey all rules;;

attend classes, tutoring, and special activities during the school

year and summer session. Parents or guardians will be contacted

in the case of any unexcused absences and repeated unexcused

absences may result in dismissal from the program;;

not be involved with illegal drugs or alcohol. Use of illegal drugs

or alcohol will result in immediate dismissal from the program;;

ensure that parent/guardian notify Artward Bound staff

regarding any absences or inability to participate in a

planned trip or activity;;

follow the rules and regulations of Artward Bound;;

work to develop themselves fully academically, artistically, and

personally for graduation from high school.
