    About the course

    The A Level Health and Social Care vocational course isspecically aimed at those who wish to pursue a careerin any of the health services, social care or early yearseducation. You will be awarded two A Levels on completionof the course. The course requires you to take part in a rangeof practical activities that will enhance your understandingof the health and social care services. Previous studentshave created health promotion campaigns aimed at SixthForm students, designing and making a learning aids forchildren and working out a diet and tness programmes foran individual. It is also recommended that you completea work placement during the course. Your teacher willprovide you with more information about this.

    At AS, you will be introduced to the structure of Health andSocial Care Services and the work done by services in EarlyYears Care and Education. The A2 course will build uponthis understanding, enabling you to develop your researchskills in health and social care, alongside exploring theareas of anatomy and physiology, mental health issues and

    many others.

    How will I be assessed?

    Units are assessed through a mixture of coursework andby external examination, in the summer term.

    Assessment at AS and A2 Level60% of the units are assessed internally through courseworkthat is externally moderated. 40% of the units are assessedby external examination, in the summer term.

    Where can it take me?

    The majority of students who have studied this coursehave gone on to complete Nursing qualications.Last year, 50% of students studying the course wereaccepted onto competitive Nursing Courses. Otherstudents have pursued careers or courses in SocialWork, Primary Teaching and Applied Science.

    Entry requirements:5 x A*-C GCSE Grades.

    Is this course for me?If you are wishing to pursue a career in any of the healthservices, social care or early years care and education,then this is the course for you. The course is also anideal foundation for the study of related courses such asnursing, midwifery, and socialwork. Coursework makesup a substantial part of the qualication so it is essentialthat you are motivated to study independently and meetimportant deadlines.
