6: Reservoir Depletion and Production Enhancement 1430 – 1800Chairs: Benjamin Stewart, Halliburton and David Dangfa, SchlumbergerWith the global increase in oil and gas demand and depleting reserves, most operators are looking for innovative ways to maximise production. In some of these mature fields, low production is not necessarily associated with depleting reserves but inappropriate reservoir depletion strategies and production enhancement approaches. These inevitably result in well and reservoir performance related problems and ultimately low hydrocarbon recovery. This session presents papers and case studies which highlight a variety of reservoir management principles.

7: Advances in Subsea Construction and Technology 1430 – 1730Chairs: Derek Miller, Chevron North Sea Limited and René Peters, TNO Science & IndustryDevelopment of subsea oil and gas fields is placing increasing demands on new technology to operate in harsher environments and to overcome production challenges. At the same time, securing integrity of subsea systems is more important than ever. This session illustrates some interesting examples of pushing the boundaries on subsea developments and also provides some insight to what is next and achievable for subsea construction and field operations in forthcoming years. The challenges of installation will be complemented by examples of the use of latest technologies.

9: Reservoir Development Planning and Techniques 0930 – 1300Chairs: Astley Hastings, University of Aberdeen and Heikki Jutila, Baker Hughes Reservoir Development ServicesThis session addresses the techniques and issues associated with increasing the production and reserves of mature fields. A wide range of fields is presented including HP/HT and heavy oil and gas, with an interesting variety of techniques being presented.

10: Managing Oil Spills 1430 – 1730Chair: Paolo Linzi, Eni UK LimitedPreventing hydrocarbons entering the environment is the top objective of our industry and maximum effort is exercised to this end. The industry reputation and all companies’ licenced to carry out exploration and production operations are inevitably affected when significant incidents occur. It is important that the industry learns from previous events and builds the ability to implement the best available techniques to prevent incidents and mitigate their consequences, when they occur. This session will address both aspects of prevention and mitigation.

11: Ensuring the Structural and Marine Integrity of Floating Production Installations Over Their Lifetime 1430 – 1800Chairs: Martin Muncer, HSE and Ian Frazer, Noble DentonThe industry has well over two decades of operational experience with floating production systems in the UKCS. In that time there have been incidents with both mooring systems and with hull structural integrity that have required corrective action. Some of this work has been done while remaining on location offshore. A series of papers discusses the key issues of integrity management encountered, and summarises some of the technologies and techniques that are currently available. Discussion on these papers will be useful for operators in developing their strategies for the maintenance of the integrity of their existing and future floating production installations.

The primary purpose of this event is to challenge students to reach out for knowledge beyond their core area(s) of study and become versed in every aspect of the oil and gas industry. Around 40 oil and gas students representing different universities across Europe have been shortlisted to take part in the inaugural Europe Petro League, a new competition launched by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section Young Professionals.

SPE Offshore Europe attendees are welcome to come along to watch the competition.

THURSDAY 5 SEPTEMBER Energy4me “Energise Your Classroom” Teacher Workshop* Energy4me, the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ (SPE) energy education outreach programme, is inviting 50 Aberdeen-area science teachers to learn how to teach energy topics in a fun and exciting way. Educators will receive comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and its importance, while discovering the world of oil and natural gas exploration and production. A variety of free instructional materials will be available to take back to the classroom.

FRIDAY 6 SEPTEMBER OPITO - Energise Your Future* More than 250 school children have signed up to take part in Energise Your Future, the interactive careers event which acts as the avenue for young people to attend the Offshore Europe conference and exhibition. OPITO has over 30 companies committed to hosting visits from pupils, all of whom are studying vital science, technology, engineering and maths subjects at school and are interested in pursuing a career in the sector. Aimed at pupils aged 16 and 17, the interactive event aims to bring the industry to life through fun and informative activities which mirror real-life jobs across the spectrum of operators, drillers, contractors and service companies.
