Saint Joseph first appeared in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. He was the earthly father of Jesus Christ and the husband of the Virgin Mary. Joseph’s lineage is traced back to King David. Father Luke will speak to us more about Saint Joseph. In addition, he will teach us about the Contemplative Life, a lived re-sponse to a call from God, heard within the heart. We are guaranteed to learn a lot this day! Please join us to welcome this wonderful priest.

LOVE OUR PRIESTS Prayer Group

We invite you to join us for a special Mass honoring Reverend Luke Buckles, O.P. Professor, Dominican Pontifical University, Rome

I am the Good Shepherd, I know my sheep, and mine know me. John 10:7-10

THE MASS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY AN

INFORMAL POTLUCK LUNCHEON Bring a friend and a dish to share!

The Knights of Columbus Pancake breakfast, July 10, 2016, served nearly 100 Parishioners. Eleven Parishioners were provided “Free Tickets” as Blood Donors. Income figures were:

Gross income: $338.44; Net after expenses: $135.57. Note: The net income will be contributed to a wide range of Parish and Catholic causes. Twenty of our Brother Knights mixed, stirred, chopped, cooked, served and cleaned up the room and the kitchen during this event. All our Brother Knights are "touched" by seeing the smiling faces of the children with their pancakes and sausages at our breakfasts. NOTE: We need a "Few More Good Men" to join our Knights of Columbus Council to help us as we help our Parish. Only one evening meeting for one hour per month is all that is requested.

Wives, please encourage your husbands to contact me,

Carlos J. Hinojosa, Grand Knight [email protected] or Chuck Cox: [email protected] for information.

God Bless.

Ascension Summer Speaker Series!

There is a change in our schedule of speakers. Karlo Broussard will speak on August 2nd instead of August 30th.

Patrick Coffin will speak on August 30th instead of August 2nd.

This is an ideal event to invite a friend!

A supply of new titles arrived recently. We try to choose topics and speakers of interest to a wide segment of parishioners…teens to seniors. We welcome suggestions and would like some parish input about the kiosk. Please email/speak to Deacon Adam or Pat Berkebile any of your suggestions or requests. You may also drop your comments in the CD recycle box. These CDs are meant to help us to learn and grow in our faith. If you cannot leave $3, leave what you can….or nothing at all. We have added a “Recycle Box.” Feel free to return CDs that you don’t feel a need to keep. You are also welcome to take CDs from the recycle box.

Karlo Broussard is a native of Crowley, Louisiana, who gave up a promising musical career to devote himself to the full-time work of winning souls for Christ. Trained by nationally known philosopher and theologian Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., Karlo works as a full time apologist, giving lectures na-tionwide in the area of intellectual evangelization. He is one of the most dynamic and enthusiastic Catholic speakers today, with experience in radio and TV broadcasting, conference speaking, biblical seminars, and audio publications. Karlo’s talks are able to move listeners from the shaky ground of doubt to the rock-solid foundation of Catholic truth. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theology.

In this talk, Karlo explains why progress in scientific knowledge in no way discredits nor can it discredit the need for God in explaining the universe. Karlo does this by giving a simple explanation of Aquinas' 2nd way showing that God is the Ultimate cause of the very existence of the universe itself; thus the first reason why God still matters. Secondly, Karlo shows that God still matters because He is the only one or thing that can satisfy our deepest desires for the perfection of truth and love - without God one falls into the absurdity of life. Finally, Karlo explains how the rejection of God undermines objective morality.

Homeless Outreach

We go out in small groups to visit the homeless and give out things such as socks, toiletries and sandwiches. But we strive to give them much more: our time and presence.

On the First Saturday of the month we visit about 30 people, distributing sandwiches and other needed supplies. On the Second and Fourth Wednesdays of the month, after Holy Mass, we walk out to visit the homeless, offer-ing them our listening ears and compassionate hearts. If you’re interested in joining us in this ministry of presence, e-mail Jun Etrata at

[email protected].
