Mary Lou Williams Homewood

This portion of a larger collaborative mural is a portrait of Mary Lou Williams, a famous jazz musician that hails from Homewood. It is located near the entrance to the busway on N. Homewood Avenue.

The whole image is composed of freehand dots and is a departure from my more realistic style of painting.

This portrait is part of a collage of images created by local high school students and professional artists . Following the curriculum I designed, the students first researched historical events and notable residents to formulate a sketch for the mural. They were then assisted by an art teacher and two professional artists to paint the design they created.

East Liberty Busway Warhol Style Portraits

I am assisting a student from Peabody High School create one of the approximately 330 portraits contained in this mural. The design and concept is by Kelly Blevins, my role was to develop the curriculum for the ten students involved so each could successfully contribute to the piece. Each student took photographs of residents, business owners and passersby, and learned how to create a high contrast image , increase the scale and paint it.
