NHG HMDP Award – Ahmad Shufi

NMRC Clinician Scientist Award

nSC Deputy Director, Associate professor Chua Sze Hon and Senior Staff nurse Ahmad Shufi (3rd and 4th from left) were among the award recipients in the nHG Awards.

Mr Ahmad Shufi Bin Jasmani was awarded the Health Manpow-er Development Plan (HMDP) Skills Attachment. The objective of HMDP is to develop healthcare professionals to take on more advanced and specialised jobs to meet the strategic manpower needs of NHG. He will be attached to the Burrell Street Sexual Health Clinic (United Kingdom), to further his operational knowl-edge of nurse-led Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) clinics.

Dr Tey Hong Liang, Senior Consultant of NSC, received the Clini-cian Scientist Award during the NMRC Awards Ceremony and Re-search Symposium 2018. This is a competitive National Award that recognises research excellence and provides funding for Dr Tey to continue breaking the frontiers for translational research. A grant is concurrently provided for Dr Tey to work on his new project over the next 3 years, targeted to develop platforms in 3-dimensional imaging and analyses for dermatological diseases.

NSC’s Groundbreaking ceremony held on 18 April 2018 marked the beginning of the redevelopment of NSC, in conjunction with the centre’s 30th anniversary. Senior Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor was Guest-of-Honour for the event. The new NSC build-ing is set to expand to 10 storeys with 2 levels of basement.

Come 2022, NSC will be able to provide seamless access to spe-cialised dermatological care for more patients. The new 10-storey building will increase its current clinic capacity by 50%, from 46 to 69 consultation rooms to meet the rising demand for outpatient services. New facilities of the building include a Day Treatment Centre which will bring together diagnostic, monitoring and treat-ment services in one location, making access to care, especially for the elderly or less ambulant patients, more convenient.

Another new facility is the Patient Education Centre, designed for patients as well as caregivers. There, they can find useful re-sources and information on self-care and how to manage various skin conditions effectively. Making such resources readily available will raise awareness on the importance of good skin care, and em-power patients and their caregivers to take charge of their health.

NSC Groundbreaking Ceremony Commemorative Edition

Associate Professor Tan Suat Hoon, Director of National Skin Cen-tre said, “our new facility will offer a full spectrum of subspecialty expertise that is well-supported by an efficient physical infrastruc-ture. Patients with complex skin diseases will benefit from the best clinical expertise, and nursing and allied health care provided. As an integrated hub, NSC will operate in an optimal environment that galvanises educators and students in learning, and supports and advances clinical research. It will be a place to engage the com-munity, whether in skin health promotion or for the community to be trained in self-care.”
