  • Learn for LifeA Message from the Chairman

    The American school of Kuwait was founded in 1961 by a group of international members of the Kuwait oil community seeking to provide a quality, western-style, education for expatriate children. In 1963, a group of American parents selected a Board of Trustees for the purpose of establishing an international school patter-end after an American school. In September of 1964, the American School of Kuwait be-gan its first official term under the name; In-ternational School of Kuwait. A full program of studies for students in kindergarten through grade 12 was provided for 75 students. These students came from sixteen different countries

    and the original faculty consisted of sixteen full time and three part time teachers. The School was located in a large villa in the Dasman area of Sharq. In 1969, the school moved to a new location in Surra. These improved facilities of-fere d in the Surra campus led to a significant

    increase in student enrollment. It was at this time that the school changed its name to the American School of Kuwait. The school has

    faced its share of challenges over the past 50 years, the most duanting of which occured when Iraq invaded Kuwait during the August of 1990. The school closed for the 1990-1991 school year but re-opened at their Surra loca-tion in September of 1991. In 1995, ASK

    relocated once again to its current campus in Hawalli. The American School of Kuwait (ASK) was established in the fall of 1964.

    The photos included in this 2014-2015 year-book have been collected from ASKs ar-chives from the past 50 years and tell the story of ASKs rich history of perseverance, strong leadership, and dedication to quality education.

    I owe a huge part of my sucess to my mom who went through each and every step with me. Who stays up if she needs to, to make sure Ive finished everything and am tucked in bed.
