One hundred twenty-nine Minnesota charter schools were awarded grants from money that came from the federal charter schools program between 2006-2014. At this time, 34 (26%) of those charter schools appeared to have never opened or opened and closed. All ndings were conrmed by checking the list of open charter schools provided by the State Education Department of Minnesota. The status of schools not listed were conrmed by searching the NCES number of the school here and then searching the internet for con- rmation. In total, $9,839,696.00 was awarded to Minnesota charter schools during those years that ei- ther never opened or shut down. The chart below shows the names of charters schools in Minnesota that received federal money between 2006-2014 but are not open today. The school names that are lightly shaded are grant recipient schools that never opened. Those shaded in maroon are schools that are closed. All findings were confirmed by checking the list of open charter schools provided by the State Education Department of Minnesota. The status of schools not listed were confirmed by searching the NCES number of the school here and then searching the internet for con-firmation.
