Submission Instructions
This task will be completed during the examination period. Specific examination dates and times
will be provided to you 2 weeks prior to the examination period.
IINDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PERFORMANCES- Performances will take place in the Drama
Room. Students MUST be present from 8.30am-3.00pm. Performances will be recorded, watched
and self/peer evaluated at a later date.
COSTUME DESIGN PROJECTS- Will be submitted by 9am on the same due date as the Group
and Individual performances during the examination period. Projects need to be submitted
directly to Ms. Sobiesiak in the Drama Room (not the assessment bin).
WRITTEN EXAM –The Drama theory exam will take place in the hall. You will need to bring
with you writing materials including a blue or black pen. Paper will be provided. You will have
one hour and a half to complete the written examination.
Penalty for non attendance on day of assessment or late submission
o Assessments submitted after 9.00am on the due date will immediately receive a
50% mark penalty of the achieved mark pending Illness/Misadventure
certification.
o Assessments submitted after 9.00am on the next day will receive a zero mark
pending Illness/Misadventure certification.

Description of the Task- PART A INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PROJECTS
There are two components to Part A:

PART A (1): INDIVIDUAL PROJECT You must choose one Individual Project from the Board of Studies (BOS) options listed on the
BOS website. These include:

Based on your proposals, the following options have been determined:
Performance
Costume Design
There are two components to the Individual Project:
Individual Project: Performance or Costume Design.
Logbook (refer to PART B) which includes your 300 word rationale
PERFORMANCE
The Individual Project- Performance will consist of:
A 300 word rationale which involves:
o Your overall concept, vision and intention of the work
o The approach taken to the work and the reasons leading to the eventual
decisions
The rationale must be typed on A4 paper and glued into the Logbook for submission.
Your solo performance must be between 6-8 minutes and based on:
o excerpts or a combination of excerpts from one or more scripts or dramatized
texts or your own self-devised material
o a realisation of a coherent theatrical statement demonstrating a clear sense of
dramatic purpose, shape and structure
You will perform your entire script, and must do this without reference to the script or
notes
The performance must be an individual performance. There should be no other student
onstage or offstage accompanying the performance with live music, vocal sound
effects or acting as a prompt
Your Performance must demonstrate the following:
o Performance skills appropriate to the style or form including:
vocal dynamics: projection, clarity, tone, pitch and pace
movement dynamics: control, energy, spatial awareness
timing: control of delivery, responses to cues, awareness of rhythms

Design-Costume The Individual Project Design-Costume will consist of:
A 300 word rationale which involves concise articulation of:
o Your overall concept, vision and intention of the work
o The approach taken to the work and the reasons leading to the eventual
decisions
The rationale must be typed on A4 paper and glued into the Logbook for submission.
Your costume design project must consist of:
o Renderings of costumes for at least two different characters
o A minimum of four to a maximum of six costume renderings in total.
o These renderings can be in a media such as: watercolour, coloured pencils or
markers. Collage or a computer-aided design submitted as hard copy.
o The renderings must be separately mounted on cardboard at least A3 size (297
x 420 mm), but no larger than A1 (594 x 841 mm).
o The figures depicted should be at least 300mm in height.
o All characters rendered and the scenes in which they appear must be identified.
o Support material attached to the renderings, which includes fabric swatches
and/or colour samples and any construction information
o Preliminary sketches and/or written descriptions of at least four other costumes
required for the production
Your costume design must demonstrate the following:
o Concept:
Effective interpretation of the play realised in a directorial
concept/vision
Integrity, originality and clarity in the design concept/vision
Selection of appropriate characters and scenes to communicate the
concept/vision
o Appropriateness:
Understanding of the characters/roles- social standing, period, place
Suitability to the dramatic and technical needs of the characters/roles
Effectiveness of colours, textures and fabric types to each costume
o Execution:
Realisation of the design concept/vision in the presentation

PART A (2) Group Self-Devised Performance
The Group Performance will be a piece of original theatre which:
is a complete theatrical statement demonstrating a sense of dramatic shape and
structure
provides an opportunity for each student to demonstrate his or her performance skills
is performed by no fewer than three and no more than six students
is 8–12 minutes in duration.
The Group Performance must demonstrate the following:
Performance skills appropriate to the style or form
– vocal dynamics: projection, clarity, tone, pitch, pace
– movement dynamics: control, energy, spatial awareness
– timing: control of delivery, responses to cues, awareness of rhythms.

Group Project Logbook
For the Group Logbook you must:
Submit an individual logbook detailing the process of devising the group
performance.
You must complete a detailed entry in the logbook for every rehearsal you have,
including lessons and any additional rehearsals. There needs to be a variety of entry
styles and purposes.
Complete the work in a book, that may be A4 or A5. Logbooks must be mainly
handwritten as they are a dynamic process document which is worked on in class and
at home. The logbook may include print outs of research, visual stimulus and
photocopies as well.
The logbook should provide:
o A record of initial ideas shared:
Explain initial ideas shared between group members. Show brainstorms,
and include all ideas even if they are not used in the final product.
Analyse the decisions you make about the ideas you will use.
Explore visual elements of the piece by including pictures, drawings,
artwork as stimulus for concept ideas.
Explain the development of the characterisation in your group
performance. Explain the way you are developing your character through
physicalisation, voice and mannerisms.
o A record of research and reading undertaken and how this contributed to the
process:
Record and synthesise all your research in the logbook. This research
should provide depth and relevance for the piece. It may include articles
from newspapers, blogs, paintings, television shows, films or
documentaries.
Critically evaluate how the research contributed to the process of
developing your performance. Reference all sources of research with the
name of source, author and date.
o An ongoing description and analysis of problems encountered and strategies
used in finding solutions:
